Venezuelan League: Games of October 27


Aragua plays Twins baseball.  Eduardo Escobar leads Anzoategui to victory.

LA GUAIRA 3, ARAGUA 2 IN ARAGUA

Twins:  Ray Olmedo (Aragua) was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Edgar Ibarra (Aragua) pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up only a hit batsman.  Dakota Watts (Aragua) pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and one walk.  Aaron Thompson (Aragua) struck out two in a perfect inning.
La Guaira:  C. J. Retherford was 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs.  Carlos Sanchez (White Sox) was 2-for-5 and scored twice.  Reynel Pinto pitched five innings, giving up two runs despite eight hits and five walks with four strikeouts.
Aragua:  Luis Maza was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double.  Carlos Colmanares was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Erik Arnesen pitched three innings, allowing an unearned run on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.
The game:  La Guaira scored single runs in the first, third, and fourth.  Aragua got single runs in the third and fifth to make it 3-2.  Aragua had the tying run in scoring position in the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth.  Aragua was 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position and stranded twelve men.

MARGARITA 5, LARA 4 IN LARA

Twins:  Antoan Richardson (Margarita) was 1-for-4 with a double.
Margarita:  Gerson Montilla (Arizona) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Breyvic Valera (St. Louis) was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Alberto Gonzalez was 2-for-4 and scored once.
Lara:  Paulo Orlando (Kansas City) was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second), scoring twice.
The game:  Margarita led 3-0 after an inning and a half, but Lara scored single runs in the second, third, and sixth to tie it up.  Margarita went ahead in the seventh when Valera singled in Montilla.  David Peralta (Arizona) singled in Gonzalez in the eighth to provide an insurance run.

ANZOATEGUI 10, MAGALLANES 3 IN ANZOATEGUI

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer.
Magallanes:  Carlos Zambrano pitched six innings, giving up two runs despite five hits and six walks with one strikeout.
Anzoategui:  Carlos Duran was 2-for-5 with a double and a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Niuman Romero (Baltimore) was 2-for-4 with a walk and scored once.  Mark Serrano (Arizona) struck out six in five innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks.
The game:  Magallanes led 3-0 after five and a half.  Anzoategui broke through with two in the sixth and took command with seven in the seventh.  A double by Leslie Anderson tied the score and an error brought in the go-ahead run.  With two on and two out, Duran tripled, Jose Gil (Yankees) tripled, and Escobar homered to make it 9-3.

CARACAS 5, ZULIA 3 IN CARACAS

Zulia:  Jose Pirela (Yankees) was 3-for-4 with a double and scored twice.  Ender Inciarte (Arizona) was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.  Roy Merritt struck out six in 6.2 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk.
Caracas:  Jesus Aguilar (Cleveland) was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his sixth.  Daniel Mayora was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Collin McHugh (Colorado) struck out five in 4.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits and one walk.
The game:  Zulia took a 1-0 lead in the fifth, but Zulia tied it in the sixth.  Each team scored twice in the seventh.  In the eighth, Aguilar hit a two-run homer to give Caracas the lead it would not relinquish.
