Arizona Fall League: Games of October 23

Two Twins lead Glendale to victory.  A Gift run gives Scottsdale a win in extra innings.  A big comeback Surprises Salt River.

GLENDALE 4, PEORIA 0 IN GLENDALE

Twins:  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4 and scored once.  Alex Meyer pitched 4.1 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Peoria:  Delino DeShields (Houston) was 2-for-4.

Glendale:  Jared Mitchell (White Sox) was 2-for-3.

The game:  A two-run single by Colin Moran (Miami) gave Glendale a 2-0 lead in the first.  In the fourth, Brandon Jacobs (White Sox) doubled in Rosario, went to third on a bunt single, and scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.

SCOTTSDALE 2, MESA 1 IN SCOTTSDALE (10 INNINGS)

Mesa:  Steven Souza, Jr. (Washington) was 3-for-4 and scored once.  Matt Purke (Washington) pitched five shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk with three strikeouts.

Scottsdale:  Andrew Susac (San Francisco) was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Jarrett Parker (San Francisco) was 2-for-4.  Hansel Robles (Mets) pitched four shutout innings, allowing four hits and no walks with one strikeout.

The game:  In the sixth, Souza singled, stole second, stole third, and scored on a single to give Mesa a 1-0 lead.  It stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth, when Tommy La Stella (Atlanta) tripled and scored on a passed ball to tie the score.  In the tenth, Susac walked and was pinch-run for by Gift Ngoepe (Pittsburgh).  Ngoepe went to third on a Kyle Kubitza (Atlanta) single and scored on a single by Alen Hanson (Pittsburgh).

SURPRISE 8, SALT RIVER 6 IN SURPRISE

Salt River:  Kyle Parker (Colorado) was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Tim Wheeler (Colorado) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run, driving in three.  Aaron Sanchez (Toronto) struck out four in four shutout innings, giving up no hits and one walk.

Surprise:  Mookie Betts (Boston) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, driving in one.  Michael Ohlman (Baltimore) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run homer (his second), scoring twice.

The game:  Salt River led 6-0 half-way through.  Surprise got four in the fifth to get back in the game, added one in the sixth, and took the lead with three in the eighth.  Ohlman's three-run homer in the fifth got things started for Surprise.  A two-run single by Tyler Naquin (Cleveland) in the eighth put Surprise ahead.
