Games of August 7


Josh Willingham homers for the Red Wings.  Hein Robb breaks Elizabethton's losing streak with a complete game shutout.  If Madison Boer makes the majors, will we talk about the Boer WAR?

ROCHESTER 5, DURHAM 4 IN DURHAM

Batting stars:  Eric Farris was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Josh Willingham was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his first.
Pitching stars:  A. J. Achter pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and one walk with one strikeout.  Michael Tonkin pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.
Opposition stars:  Tim Beckham was 4-for-4 with two RBIs.  Chris Gimenez was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Key inning:  The fourth.  The score was tied at three.  Deibinson Romero walked, Farris singled, and a bunt moved them to second and third.  A walk loaded the bases, a hit batsman forced in the go-ahead run, and a force out brought home an insurance run.
Prospect watch:  Eduardo Escobar was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Darin Mastroianni was 0-for-3 with two RBIs.  Chris Parmelee was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

AKRON 7, NEW BRITAIN 3 IN AKRON

Batting stars:  Danny Santana was 2-for-3 with a triple and a hit-by-pitch and scored once.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Pitching star:  Jose Gonzalez pitched a scoreless inning despite giving up two hits and one walk with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Alex Monsalve was 3-for-4 with a home run.  Cedric Hunter was 2-for-3 with a walk and two triples, scoring once and driving in one.  Jesus Aguilar was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.
Key inning:  The seventh.  The Aeros led 4-3.  With one out, Hunter was hit by a pitch and Aguilar singled to put runners on the corners.  A sacrifice fly drove in one.  Tyler Holt singled and Adam Abraham hit a two-run double to make the score 7-3.
Prospect watch:  Wilkin Ramirez was 0-for-4.  Miguel Sano was 1-for-3 with a walk.

CEDAR RAPIDS 7, BELOIT 4 IN BELOIT

Batting stars:  Jeremias Pineda was 3-for-4 and scored twice.  Jonathan Murphy was 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in one.  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs.
Pitching stars:  Brett Lee started and pitched three shutout innings, giving up two hits and striking out one.  Madison Boer struck out two in a perfect inning.
Opposition stars:  Chris Bostick was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Daniel Robertson was 2-for-4 and scored once.  Ryan Mathews was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Key inning:  The fourth.  The Kernels led 2-0 when they struck for five.  With one out, Joel Licon and Michael Quesada doubled, followed by singles by Pineda and Murphy and a three-run homer by Goodrum to make the score 7-0.
Prospect watch:  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-5.  Max Kepler was 1-for-4.

ELIZABETHTON 3, JOHNSON CITY 0 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Romy Jimenez was 2-for-4.  Ryan Walker was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Zach Granite was 1-for-3 with a walk.
Pitching stars:  Hein Robb struck out nine in a complete game shutout, giving up two hits and no walks.
Opposition star:  Ronnierd Garcia was 2-for-3.
Key inning:  The fifth.  It was a scoreless tie.  Walker singled, stole second, and scored when Tanner Vavra reached on an error.  Singles by Granite and Dereck Rodriguez made it 2-0.  Following a double play, Mitch Garver singled in another run to make it 3-0.
Prospect watch:  Rodriguez was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

GCL ORIOLES 2, GCL TWINS 1 AT ORIOLES (10 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Jorge Fernandez was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Adonis Pacheco was 1-for-3 with a walk.
Pitching stars:  Chih-Wei Hu started and pitched three innings, giving up an unearned run on one hit and no walks with two strikeouts.  Lester Oliveros pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks with one strikeout.  Jared Wilson pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Hunter Harvey started and pitched four shutout innings, allowing two hits and one walk with two strikeouts.  Chance Sisco was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Key inning:  The tenth.  The score was tied at one.  With one out, Ronarsy Ledesma hit a walk-off homer.  It came off Jose Abreu, who was in his second inning of work.
Prospect watch:  Alex Swim was 0-for-4.  Zach Larson was 1-for-4.  Abreu pitched 1.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks with one strikeout.
