Games of May 7

Jose Berrios has nothing to learn in Rochester.  Good pitching throughout the minors for the Twins.  LaMonte Wade and Nick Gordon stay hot for the Lookouts.

ROCHESTER 3, PAWTUCKET 1 IN ROCHESTER

Tommy Field's two-run double put the Red Wings ahead 2-1 and Jose Berrios and three relievers took it from there.  Berrios gave up a run in the first inning on consecutive two-out doubles but was in control the rest of the way.  Ex-Twin Heiker Meneses was 1-for-4 and is batting .273.
Berrios pitched 6.2 innings, giving up one run on six hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  His ERA is now 1.13 with a WHIP of 0.81.  He has struck out 39 and walked 8 in 39.2 innings.  I have no idea what more the Twins want him to do.  Trevor Hildenberger and Alex Wimmers each pitched a scoreless inning.  Zack Granite made his AAA debut and went 2-for-4.  Field was 2-for-4 with a double and drove in all three Rochester runs.

CHATTANOOGA 4, PENSACOLA 2 IN CHATTANOOGA (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

The Lookouts trailed 2-1 going to the bottom of the sixth, but Travis Harrison singled in two runs and scored on a Ryan Walker triple to put them in the lead to stay.
Kohl Stewart had a better game, though far from stellar.  He pitched 4.2 innings and gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  He also hit a batter.  Todd Van Steensel retired all seven batters he faced, striking out two, to drop his ERA to 1.32 with 17 strikeouts in 13.2 innings.  Nick Gordon was 2-for-3 with a triple and a double to raise his average to .343.  Engelb Vielma was 1-for-2 with a walk to raise his average to .319.

CHATTANOOGA 3, PENSACOLA 2 IN CHATTANOOGA (GAME 2--8 INNINGS)

It was scheduled for seven innings, but the score was tied 2-2 after three and stayed there through seven.  The Lookouts opened the eighth with a walk and a single and LaMonte Wade followed with another single to win the game.
Ryan Eades pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  John Curtiss pitched two shutout innings to keep his ERA at zero through 11.1 innings.  Nick Burdi pitched a scoreless inning to drop his ERA to 0.87 in 10.1 innings.  Jonathan Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double.  Wade was 1-for-1 with two walks and is batting .304.  He is 14-for-29 (.483) in his last ten games and has raised his average 96 points.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-2 with two walks and is batting .336 with an OBP of .403.

FORT MYERS 6, ST. LUCIE 0 IN ST. LUCIE

It was scoreless until the eighth, but then Nelson Molina and Zander Weil each hit a two-run homer to make it 4-0.  The Miracle added two in the ninth.  It was Molina's second homer and Weil's third.  Lucas Duda was playing for the Mets on a rehab assignment and went 0-for-4.
Dereck Rodriguez was dominant for seven innings, giving up two hits and a walk with three strikeouts to drop his ERA to 2.31.  Williams Ramirez struck out three in two shutout innings to lower his ERA to 2.25.  Weil was 3-for-5.  Molina was 2-for-5 and had three RBIs.  Chris Paul was 1-for-4 with a walk and is batting .328.

CEDAR RAPIDS 4, FORT WAYNE 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Christian Cavaness had a two-run double in the second and the Kernels added two more in the fifth.  The lone TinCaps run came in the sixth on an RBI single by Fernando Tatis, Jr.
Clark Beeker continued his fine pitching, striking out six in six innings and giving up one run on four hits and a walk.  His ERA is now 1.65 with a WHIP of 0.95.  He has 26 strikeouts and 3 walks in 32.2 innings.  Travis Blankenhorn was 2-for-2 with a double and two walks.
