Games of May 24

A good start by Aaron Slegers goes for nothing, as the bullpen lets one get away.  Fernando Romero pitched very well.  Clark Beeker continues to pitch well.
DURHAM 6, ROCHESTER 5 IN ROCHESTER
RBI doubles by Matt HagueNiko Goodrum. and Mitch Garver, all in the sixth inning, put the Red Wings up 4-2.  They added another run in the seventh and appeared to be in good shape, leading 5-2.  In the eighth, however, a single, a double, and a single made it 5-4 and Shane Peterson hit a two-out two-run homer to give the Bulls the lead.  Rochester had men on first and third with none out in the eighth, but a line out and a double play ended the inning.
Aaron Slegers made his third consecutive solid start, going six innings and giving up two runs on six hits and no walks with five strikeouts.  The only relief pitcher of four to go unscathed was Alex Wimmers, who pitched a perfect ninth.  Garver was 3-for-4, hitting his third home run in addition to the double.  ByungHo Park was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Hague was 2-for-5 with a double.
CHATTANOOGA 2, MONTGOMERY 0 IN CHATTANOOGA
All the runs came in the sixth.  With one out, Ryan Walker singled, Nick Gordon doubled, and Edgar Corcino brought them both home with a single.  The Biscuits got a man to third in the fifth and again in the ninth, both times with two out.
Fernando Romero made his best start in a month, pitching six innings and giving up three hits and three walks with five strikeouts.  Luke Bard struck out four in two shutout innings.  John Curtiss struck out two in a scoreless inning to keep his ERA at zero. He has struck out 22 and walked 9 in 16.2 innings.  Gordon was 1-for-4 and is batting .304.  Corcino was 1-for-3 and is batting .301.
FORT MYERS AT DUNEDIN
Postponed due to inclement weather.
CLINTON 3, CEDAR RAPIDS 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS
Aaron Whitefield's two-run triple in the seventh tied the score 2-2.  In the ninth, though, the LumberKings loaded the bases with one out.  Gareth Morgan hit a ground ball to short but the Kernels could not turn the double play, allowing the go-ahead run to score.  Cedar Rapids put men on first and second with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but a strikeout and a line out ended the game.
Clark Beeker continues to pitch well, throwing six innings and giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Brandon Lopez was 3-for-4 with a double.  Ariel Montesino was 2-for-5.  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-4 and is batting .326.
