Games of July 15

Dillon Gee is making people wonder if the Twins called up the wrong veteran pitcher.  Rodriguez and Rodriguez have big days.  Two two-baggers in the ninth win it for Fort Myers.  Griffin Jax again pitches well.  Big days for Brent Rooker and Shane Carrier.  Lots of hits, but only one run for the GCL Twins.

ROCHESTER 4, LEHIGH VALLEY 1 IN LEHIGH VALLEY

ByungHo Park singled home a run in the first and the Red Wings led all the way.  They added single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh to go ahead 4-0.  The lone IronPig run came in the eighth.  They had the tying run up to bat with one out in that inning, but a double play ended the threat and they went down in order in the ninth.

Dillon Gee pitched seven shutout innings, giving up four hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  His ERA remains at zero with a WHIP of 0.84 in fifteen innings.  Drew Rucinski pitched 1.2 scoreless innings to make his ERA 1.47 with a WHIP of 0.78.  Park was 3-for-5.  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-5 with a double.

CHATTANOOGA 7, JACKSONVILLE 0 IN CHATTANOOGA

Jonathan Rodriguez doubled home a run in the first and the Lookouts led all the way.  They added single runs in the third and fourth to go ahead 3-0.  They added four in the seventh, capped by T. J. White's two-run homer, to put the game out of reach.

Dereck Rodriguez pitched three shutout innings, giving up four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  He threw 77 pitches, and I don't know if there's any other reason he only pitched three innings.  Raul Fernandez struck out five in three shutout innings.  Todd Van Steensel struck out four in two shutout innings to make his ERA 1.64 with 43 strikeouts in 38.1 innings.  Nick Anderson pitched a scoreless inning to make his ERA 1.08 with a WHIP of 0.90 and 19 strikeouts in 16.2 innings.  Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a home run (his eleventh) and a double and is batting .310.  Nick Gordon was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Carlos Paulino was 2-for-4.  White's home run was his seventh.

FORT MYERS 4, ST. LUCIE 3 IN FORT MYERS

Zander Weil doubled home a run in the first but the Miracle did not lead all the way.  It was 2-0 after two and stayed there until the sixth, when the Mets tied it on a two-run homer by John Mora and scored again later in the inning to go ahead 3-2.  It was 3-2 until the ninth inning, when consecutive RBI doubles by Brandon Lopez and Jermaine Palacios won the game for Fort Myers.

Cody Stashak struck out six in six innings, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk.  Tom Hackimer pitched a perfect inning to make his ERA 1.00 with a WHIP of 0.94.  Alex Muren pitched a scoreless inning to make his ERA 1.86 with 22 strikeouts in 19.1 innings.  Sam Clay pitched a scoreless inning to make his ERA 1.51.  Sean Miller was 3-for-4.  Palacios was 3-for-5 with a double and is batting .325.  Lopez was 3-for-5 with a double and is batting .317.  Nelson Molina was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Mitchell Kranson was 2-for-4.

SOUTH BEND 1, CEDAR RAPIDS 0 IN SOUTH BEND

Alberto Mineo doubled home a run in the first and the Cubs led all the way.  The Kernels offensive slump continued, as they had only four hits and did not get a man to second until the eighth inning.

Griffin Jax continues to impress, going seven innings and giving up one run on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts to make his ERA 2.29 with a WHIP of 0.92.  Logan Lombana pitched a scoreless inning.  All the Cedar Rapids hits were singles and no one had more than one.

ELIZABETHTON 9, GREENEVILLE 6 IN GREENEVILLE

Brody Westmoreland homered in the first, but the Astros did not lead all the way.  Greeneville actually hit three home runs in the first to take a 4-0 lead, but the Twins came back with four in the third, three scoring on a Shane Carrier double, to tie it 4-4.  It was 6-5 Astros going to the ninth, but Brent Rooker hit a three-run double and later scored to put Elizabethton up 9-6.  Greeneville got the tying run to bat with one out in the ninth, but a pair of fly outs ended the game.

Nick Brown pitched well after the first, but his line is four innings, four runs, four hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.  Rooker was 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs.  Carrier was 2-for-5 with four RBIs.  Mark Contreras was 1-for-5 with a triple and is batting .353.  Matt Albanese was 1-for-4 and is batting .316.  Jose Miranda was 1-for-4 with a walk and is batting .303.  Andrew Bechtold was 0-for-0 with four walks and is batting .300.

GCL RED SOX 6, GCL TWINS 1 AT RED SOX

The Red Sox scored two in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 3-0 lead.  The Twins got on the board in the seventh when Royce Lewis tripled home a run, but the Red Sox got the run back in the bottom of the seventh and scored two in the eighth to put the game out of reach.  The Twins had one run on fourteen hits, which is not easy to do.

Taylor Clemensia pitched well until weakening in the fifth.  He struck out seven in 4.2 innings, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk.  His ERA is now 2.79 with 11 strikeouts in 9.2 innings.  Akil Baddoo was 3-for-5.  Benjamin Rodriguez was 2-for-4 and is batting .340.  Alex Robles was 2-for-4 and is batting .322.  Victor Tademo was also 2-for-4.  Lewis was 2-for-5 with a triple and is batting .323.
