Games of July 27

Trevor Hildenberger continues to dominate the Southern League.  Randy LeBlanc and Dereck Rodriguez continue to improve.

PAWTUCKET 3, ROCHESTER 0 IN PAWTUCKET

The Red Sox scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning, getting a two-run double from Chris Marrero and an RBI double from Jantzen Witte.  Jose Berrios pitched well apart from that inning.  His line is six innings, three runs, five hits, and two walks with eight strikeouts.  D. J. Baxendale pitched 1.2 innings and allowed one hit.  His ERA is now 1.29 with a WHIP of 0.79 in 14 AAA innings.  Adam Brett Walker II was 3-for-4 and Tommy Field was 2-for-4.  No other Red Wing got a hit.

CHATTANOOGA 8, TENNESSEE 4 IN CHATTANOOGA

Mitch Garver hit a two-run homer in a four-run fifth that put the Lookouts ahead 5-3.  They added three in the sixth to take control of the game.  Kohl Stewart needed ninety-nine pitches to get through five innings.  He gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts.  Zack Jones gave up only his second run since going to AA, raising his ERA to 1.26.  Trevor Hildenberger pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.  His ERA drops to 0.70 with a WHIP of 0.70.  He has struck out 45 and walked 6 in 38.2 innings.  Seems like it may be time to see what he can do in AAA.  Garver was 2-for-4 with a double in addition to his tenth homer.  Edgar Corcino was 3-for-4 with a home run.  Engelb Vielma was 3-for-4.

FORT MYERS 7, PALM BEACH 3 IN FORT MYERS

A three-run third gave the Miracle a 3-2 lead and a three-run sixth gave them control of the game.  After a rough start in high-A Randy LeBlanc is doing much better.  He pitched six innings and gave up two runs on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Brian Navaretto was 3-for-4.  LaMonte Wade was 2-for-3 with a double and is batting .350.

CEDAR RAPIDS 10, KANE COUNTY 2 IN KANE COUNTY

Christian Cavaness hit a grand slam triple, as he circled the bases on a triple-plus-error with the bases loaded, that put the Kernels up 4-1.  They were in control of the game the rest of the way.  Dereck Rodriguez had his fourth consecutive good start, striking out six in six innings and allowing one run on four hits and two walks.  His ERA, while still high, has dropped by over a run over those four starts.  Chris Ibarra was 3-for-6 with a double.  Zander Weil and Nelson Molina were each 2-for-3 with two walks.  Luis Arraez was 0-for-6, dropping his average to .323.

ELIZABETHTON 5, PULASKI 2 IN PULASKI

Leading 2-1, the Twins scored three in the eighth to put the game out of reach.  Tyler Martin struck out five in 4.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks.  Patrick McGuff allowed one hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning, keeping his professional ERA at zero in 14.1 innings.  He has struck out 26 and walked 5.  Shane Carrier was 2-for-4 with a double.  Ariel Montesino was 2-for-5 and is batting .354.  Alex Kirilloff was 1-for-4 and is batting .359.  Travis Blankenhorn was 1-for-4 and is batting .315.

GCL ORIOLES 3, GCL TWINS 2 AT ORIOLES

Two walks and a single scored two runs and gave the Orioles a 3-1 lead.  Jose Miranda homered in the eighth, but that was the only hit the Twins had in the last three innings.  Huascar Ynoa struck out nine in 5.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk.  Miranda's homer was one of only four Twins hits.  Aaron Whitefield was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk and is batting .304.

DSL GIANTS 3, DSL TWINS 0 AT TWINS

It was scoreless until the ninth, when Andres Angulo hit a two-run double and later came around to score.  The Twins did not get a baserunner until the fourth, but they got a man to third in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.  Carlos Suniaga struck out four in four shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Jorge Parra was 2-for-4 with a double and is batting .313.  Victor Tademo was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .310.
