Games of September 5

Danny Ortiz was grand for the Red Wings. D. J. Hicks has a good game. Alex Real and Chris Paul lead the Kernels.

ROCHESTER 13, LEHIGH VALLEY 1 IN LEHIGH VALLEY

Batting stars: Eric Farris was 3-for-6 with a double, scoring three times and driving in three. Danny Ortiz was 3-for-5 with a grand slam, his seventeenth homer. Doug Bernier was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.

Pitching stars: Jose Berrios struck out five in five innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk. Alex Meyer struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk. Loek van Mil pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars: Jordan Danks was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Russ Canzler was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.

The game: It was 2-1 after four, but Rochester scored six in the fifth to take control of the game. They batted eleven, getting a double, four singles, and three walks. Ortiz hit a grand slam in a five-run eighth that put the game out of reach.

Of note: Reynaldo Rodriguez was 1-for-5 with a double and a run. Josmil Pinto was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

JACKSON 4, CHATTANOOGA 3 IN CHATTANOOGA

Batting stars: D. J. Hicks was 2-for-3 with a home run (his sixth), a double, and a walk, scoring twice. Niko Goodrum was 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk. Shannon Wilkerson was 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.

Pitching stars: Greg Peavey pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts. J. T. Chargois pitched 1.1 innings, giving up two hits with one strikeout.

Opposition stars: Dylan Unsworth pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run on six hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Ian Miller was 3-for-5 with a run. Leon Landry was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.

The game: Landry doubled and scored in the fourth to put the Generals up 2-1. Jordy Lara's two-run double in the eighth made it 4-1. A single and four walks brought the Lookouts to 4-3 in the ninth, but a line out ended the game.

Of note: Shannon Wilkerson was 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Jorge Polanco was 2-for-5. Max Kepler was 0-for-3 with an RBI. Adam Brett Walker was 0-for-4.

FORT MYERS AT CHARLOTTE

Rained out.

CEDAR RAPIDS 9, CLINTON 3 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars: Edgar Corcino was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring twice. Alex Real was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in three. Chris Paul was 2-for-3 with a triple and a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars: Yorman Landa struck out three in two shutout innings. Jared Wilson pitched a shutout inning, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars: Brock Hebert was 2-for-4 with two runs. Burt Reynolds was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Osmer Morales retired all four men he faced, striking out one.

The game: The Kernels scored two in the bottom of the third to break a 3-3 tie. The go-ahead run scored on a balk and Paul doubled in the other run. Real hit a two-run double in a three-run sixth that put the game out of reach.

Of note: Sean Miller was 0-for-4 with a walk and a run. Rafael P. Valera was 0-for-3 with two walks and two runs. T. J. White was 1-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in three. Keaton Steele pitched six innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
