ZULIA 5, MAGALLANES 4 IN ZULIA (11 INNINGS)
Magallanes: Andres Blanco (Philadelphia) was 2-for-4 with
a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Mario Lisson (San Francisco) was 1-for-4 with
a walk, scoring once and driving in one.
Bobby Blevins (Dodgers) pitched five innings, giving up two runs on five
hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
Zulia: Carlos Moncrief (Cleveland) was 2-for-3 with
a double and two RBIs. Freddy Galvis
(Philadelphia) was 2-for-6 with two runs.
Silvino Bracho (Arizona) struck out four in two shutout innings,
allowing no hits and no walks.
The game: Reegie Corona’s (Yankees) RBI double capped a
two-run Zulia eighth that tied the game 4-4.
A two-out bases loaded walk brought home the winning run in the
eleventh.
CARACAS 5, ARAGUA 4 IN CARACAS (10 INNINGS)
Twins: Eduardo
Escobar was 0-for-5 for Aragua. Argenis Diaz was 0-for-1 for
Aragua. Josmil Pinto was 0-for-3 for Aragua.
Aragua: Hector Gimenez (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with a
walk and two runs. Alex Romero was
2-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs.
Jason Lane (San Diego) pitched 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on eight
hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Caracas: Danry Vasquez (Houston) was 4-for-5 with a
home run (his second) and two triples, driving in three. Eugenio Suarez (Detroit) was 2-for-4 with a
triple and a double, scoring once and driving in one. Wilsen Palacios (Detroit) struck out five in
5.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk.
The game: Vasquez had an RBI single to tie the game 4-4
in the eighth. With two out and none on
in the tenth, Vasquez hit a walkoff home run.
LARA 3, MARGARITA 1 IN LARA
Margarita: Anthony Ortega (Dodgers) pitched a scoreless
inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.
Lara: Cesar Hernandez (Philadelphia) was 2-for-2
with a walk and an RBI. Gabriel Noriega
(Seattle) was 1-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one. Nestor Molina (White Sox) pitched seven
innings, allowing one run on three hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
The game: Margarita scored on a groundout to tie the
score 1-1 in the fifth, but Paulo Orlando’s (Kansas City) single in the bottom
of the fifth put Lara back in front.
Margarita had only four hits in the game and did not draw a walk.
LA GUAIRA 5, ANZOATEGUI 2 IN ANZOATEGUI
Twins: Oswaldo
Arcia was 0-for-3 with a walk for Anzoategui.
La Guaira: Jaime Romak was 1-for-3 with a three-run
homer and a walk. Jose Gonzalez was
1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring twice. Junior Guerra (White Sox) struck out six in
5.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.
Anzoategui: Niuman Romero (Oakland) was 1-for-3 with a
double and a walk, scoring once. Orlando
Arcia (Milwaukee) was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Jean Toledo pitched 1.1 scoreless innings,
allowing two hits with one strikeout.
The game: Romak hit a three-run homer in the second
inning and La Guaira never trailed.
Orlando Arcia’s two-run double cut the lead to 4-2 in the eighth, but
Luis Sardinas (Texas) singled in an insurance run in the ninth for La Guaira.
