Amilcar Gaxiola throws a no-hitter for Mazatlan. A walkoff win for Los Mochis. Carlos Valencia’s grand slam makes the difference for Obregon.
LOS MOCHIS 7, MEXICALI 6 IN LOS MOCHIS
Mexicali: Walter Ibarra (Arizona) was 3-for-5 with a
double, scoring once and driving in one.
Victor Mendoza was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his third. Edgar Osuna (Kansas City) pitched five
innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and no walks with three strikeouts.
Los Mochis: Joan Carlos Pedroso was 3-for-4 with a home
run (his second) and a double, scoring twice.
Brian Burgamy (Mets) was 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs. Oscar Verdugo pitched six innings, allowing
two runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
The game: Mexicali scored three in the eighth and one
in the ninth to take a 6-4 lead to the bottom of the ninth. A walk, two singles, and another walk made it
6-5 with two out and Emmanuel Avila hit a two-run single to win the game for
Los Mochis.
CULIACAN 6, JALISCO 3 IN JALISCO
Twins: Eric
Farris was 0-for-4 with a walk.
Culiacan: Garrett Weber (Arizona) was 3-for-4 with a
home run and a double. Maxwell Leon was
1-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk, scoring twice. Ricardo Gomez struck out two in a perfect
inning.
Jalisco: Marquez Smith (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 with
two doubles. Eduardo Arredondo was
2-for-5 with an RBI. Hugo Castellanos
struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits.
The game: Ramiro Pena’s (Atlanta) RBI single put
Culiacan ahead 4-3 in the fifth. Leon’s
two-run homer in the sixth provided a pair of insurance runs.
OBREGON 5, NAVOJOA 1 IN OBREGON
Navojoa: Carlos Orrantia was 2-for-3 with a walk and a
run. Esteban Haro pitched 2.1 scoreless
innings, giving up two hits.
Obregon: Carlos Valencia was 2-for-4 with a grand
slam, his seventh homer. Corey Wimberly
was 3-for-4 with a run. Irwin Delgado
pitched six shutout innings, allowing six hits and no walks with five
strikeouts.
The game: Valencia hit a two-out grand slam in the
first inning. There was no more scoring
until the sixth, and the Obregon lead was never less than four runs.
MAZATLAN 8, HERMOSILLO 0 IN MAZATLAN
Hermosillo: Marcos Rivas pitched two scoreless innings,
giving up no hits and three walks with one strikeout.
Mazatlan: Jesus Castillo was 2-for-4 with a double and
a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.
Derrick Robinson (Cincinnati) was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks,
driving in one. Amilcar Gaxiola pitched
a complete game no-hitter, allowing four walks with four strikeouts.
The game: Three Mazatlan doubles led to three runs in
the first inning and Gaxiola took it from there. The only time Hermosillo got a man to second
was the fourth, when it came on a leadoff error and a two-out wild pitch.
