Ortiz was 1-for-5 for Mayaguez. Kennys Vargas was 1-for-5 with a double
and two RBIs.
Mayaguez: Luis Montanez was 2-for-5 with a home run and
two RBIs. Fehlandt Lentini was 2-for-5
with two doubles and a run. Tomas
Santiago pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk with no
strikeouts.
Santurce: Jordan Lennerton was 1-for-4 with a grand
slam and a walk. A. J. Jimenez (Toronto)
was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run. Jon
Velasquez (Mets) pitched two shutout innings, allowing only a walk.
The game: Santurce scored four in the sixth to go up
4-3, but T. J. Rivera (Mets) singled in a run in the seventh to tie it 4-4.
With one out in the eleventh, Mayaguez got a walk and three consecutive singles
to score twice.
CAGUAS 8, CAROLINA 0 IN CAROLINA
Caguas: Angel Sanchez was 3-for-4 with a home run and
a double, scoring twice and driving in two.
Trever Adams (Texas) was 2-for-5 with two home runs (his second and
third), driving in three. Jose De Leon
(Dodgers) struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up four hits and no
walks.
Carolina: Ozzie Martinez (Baltimore) was 2-for-2 with
two walks. Gaspar Santiago pitched a
scoreless inning, allowing one hit with one strikeout.
The game: The first four Caguas batters went single,
double, single, single, leading to a three-run first. Carolina had only five hits in the game.
