Things were done by the third inning in both games.
SAN JUAN 8, CAGUAS 3 IN CAGUAS
San Juan: Ruben Gotay (Cincinnati) was 2-for-3 with a
home run (his third) and two walks, scoring three times and driving in
four. Jon Garcia (Dodgers) was 3-for-5
with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one. Adalberto Flores pitched five innings, giving
up one run on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts.
Caguas: Jaime Ortiz was 2-for-4 with two doubles,
scoring once and driving in one. Johnny
Monell (Dodgers) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Joe Testa pitched a perfect inning with one
strikeout.
The game: Three doubles and a single produced three
runs in the first for San Juan. Gotay
hit a three-run homer in the third to make it 6-0 San Juan and their lead was
never threatened.
MAYAGUEZ 8, SANTURCE 0 IN SANTURCE
Twins: Daniel
Ortiz was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI for Mayaguez. Kennys
Vargas was 1-for-3 with two walks for Mayaguez, scoring twice and driving
in one.
Mayaguez: Andrew Velazquez (Arizona) was 2-for-4 with a
double and two walks, scoring twice and driving in one. T. J. Rivera (Mets) was 2-for-5 with two
doubles, scoring once and driving in one.
Bradin Hagens (Arizona) struck out nine in six shutout innings, giving
up three hits and three walks.
Santurce: Jordan Lennerton (Detroit) was 4-for-4. David Rollins (Houston) struck out three in
three shutout innings, allowing one hit.
The game: Mayaguez had two runs before an out was
recorded in the first, scored two more on one hit in the third, and the game
was out of reach. Santurce had five
hits, four of them by Lennerton.
