RBI doubles bring in the go-ahead run in both games.
CAGUAS 3, SAN JUAN 1 IN CAGUAS
San Juan: Michael Perez (Arizona) was 2-for-3 with a
double and an RBI. John Andreoli (Cubs)
was 1-for-3 with a walk. Joshua Torres
(Milwaukee) retired all five batters he faced with one strikeout.
Caguas: Johnny Monell (Mets) was 2-for-4 with a
double and a run. Jaime Ortiz was
2-for-3 with two RBIs. Jacob Barnes
(Milwaukee) struck out five in four innings, allowing one run on two hits and
three walks.
The game: An RBI double by Ramon Castro and Ortiz’ RBI
single broke a 1-1 tie and put Caguas up 3-1 in the fourth. San Juan did not get a man past first base
after that.
CAROLINA 5, SANTURCE 3 IN SANTURCE
Carolina: Irving Falu (Cincinnati) was 2-for-5 with a
double, scoring twice and driving in one.
Ozzie Martinez (Baltimore) was 3-for-4 with a walk and a run. Giancarlo Alvarado struck out nine in six
innings, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks.
Santurce: A. J. Jimenez (Toronto) was 2-for-4 with a
double, scoring once and driving in two.
Ismael Salgado was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run. Joel Piniero pitched 6.2 innings, allowing
three runs on ten hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
The game: Falu’s two-out RBI double in the ninth broke
a 3-3 tie. He later scored an insurance
run on a wild pitch.
