Four errors and no
runs doom the Red Wings. A frustrating game for the Lookouts, but it may
be time to move up both Nick Gordon and LaMonte Wade. The Andersons
provide relief in a Miracle win. The fourth inning decided things for the
Kernels.
LEHIGH VALLEY 9, ROCHESTER 0 IN LEHIGH VALLEY
The IronPigs scored in
six of their eight innings at bat and cruised to an easy win. The Red
Wings made four errors, which was not particularly helpful.
Coming in, Aaron
Slegers had pitched two really good games and two bad ones. This
one tipped the scale in the wrong direction, as he pitched four innings and
gave up five runs on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Alan
Busenitz and Nik Turley each pitched a scoreless
inning of relief. Matt Hague was 2-for-4. Rochester had
only five hits, all singles.
MONTGOMERY 9, CHATTANOOGA 4 IN MONTGOMERY
Dan
Rohlfing hit a grand slam (his
fourth homer) in the fourth inning to put the Lookouts up 4-1. It was all
Biscuits after that, as Montgomery score one in the fourth, three in the fifth,
two in the sixth, and two in the seventh to win going away. The bottom of
the fifth and the top of the sixth were extremely frustrating for Chattanooga.
The Biscuits scored three runs in the fifth without hitting the ball out
of the infield. There was an error, a hit batsman, another error, a bunt
single, and a wild pitch. In the top of the sixth, the Lookouts loaded
the bases with none out, only to see the next two batters strike out and a
runner out at the plate trying to score on a wild pitch that hit the backstop
and bounced right back to the catcher at home plate for an unassisted putout.
Fernando
Romero pitched 5.2 innings, allowing seven runs (five
earned) on nine hits and no walks with four strikeouts. Romero had
pitched well in his last three starts, lowering his ERA to 2.96, but it went up
by nearly a run in this game. Mason Melotakis struck out
three in a scoreless inning, keeping his ERA at zero with 11 strikeouts and 2
walks in 13.2 innings. His WHIP is 0.51. LaMonte Wade was
2-for-2 with a double and two walks. He is batting .321 with an OBP of
.468. Nick Gordon was 1-for-5 and is batting .330.
FORT MYERS 5, PALM BEACH 2 IN FORT MYERS
A four-run sixth
turned a 2-1 deficit into a 5-2 lead and eventual victory. Brian
Navarreto drove in the tying run with a sacrifice fly, Kevin
Garcia brought home the go-ahead run with a single, and Rafael
P. Valera tripled in two to secure the lead.
Cody
Stashak pitched five innings, giving up two runs on
three hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Brady Anderson threw
three shutout innings of relief. Nick Anderson followed with
a scoreless inning, keeping his ERA at zero. He has struck out 11 and
walked 1 in 11.1 innings. No Miracle batter had more than one hit. Chris
Paul was 1-for-3 and is batting .328.
DAYTON 4, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN DAYTON
All the game's runs
scored in the fourth inning. Jermaine Palacios homered
leading off the top of the fourth (his second) to put the Kernels up 1-0, but
the Dragons responded with four in the bottom of the inning. James
Vasquez and Brantley Bell each had a run-scoring single and Cassidy Brown
delivered a two-run single. Cedar Rapids did not get a hit after
the Palacios home run and only had two hits in the game.
Eduardo
Del Rosario had pitched well for
three innings but ended up only going 3.2 and giving up four runs on four hits
and four walks. He did strike out five. Logan Lombana struck
out three in 3.1 scoreless innings of relief, dropping his ERA to 1.74. Tom
Hackimer pitched a scoreless inning and has an ERA of 2.45. Palacios was
1-for-4 and is now batting .360.
