The Red Wings overcome
a big early deficit. A big inning sinks the Lookouts. The Miracle
single their way to a win. A big day for Jaylin Davis carries the
Kernels.
ROCHESTER 10, LEHIGH VALLEY 8 IN ROCHESTER
The Red Wings didn't
make it easy. They surrendered seven runs to the IronPigs in the second
inning, four of them coming on a rally-killing grand slam by Rhys Hopkins, to
fall behind 7-1. Not a problem, as Rochester scored six in the fourth to
tie it. Matt Hague homered and Mitch Garver had
a two-run single in the inning. They took the lead with three in the
fifth, with two scoring on a Zack Granite single. Lehigh
Valley got the tying run on base with one out in the ninth, but their last two
batters were retired.
Jason
Wheeler recovered from the second inning to get
through five, giving up seven runs on eight hits and two walks with six
strikeouts. Buddy Boshers pitched three innings, giving up
one run on one hit with three strikeouts. Trevor Hildenberger struck
out two in a scoreless inning. Hague was 3-for-5 with a
double in addition to his fourth home run. Tommy Field was
3-for-4 with a double and a walk. J. B. Shuck was 2-for-3
with a double. Engelb Vielma was 2-for-5. Daniel
Palka hit a home run, his seventh. Granite was
1-for-4 with three RBIs and is batting .304.
BILOXI 9, CHATTANOOGA 3 IN BILOXI
Already ahead 2-1, the
Shuckers scored five in the fifth to put the game out of reach. They started
the inning with a walk, a hit batsman, and another walk, then got five
consecutive singles. The Lookouts got two in the eighth but never
threatened to get back into the game.
Fernando
Romero, who has been hot and cold all year, was cold
in this game, going 4.1 innings and allowing seven runs (six earned) on five
hits and four walks with four strikeouts. Raul Fernandez struck
out five in two shutout innings of relief. Travis Harrison was
2-for-4. Nick Gordon was 0-for-4 with a walk and is batting .312.
Edgar Corcino was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .308.
T. J. White was 1-for-2 and is batting .385.
FORT MYERS 5, CLEARWATER 2 IN FORT MYERS
Trailing 2-1 through
four, the Miracle scored three in the fifth to take the lead on their way to
their fifth straight win. Max Murphy had a two-run single
and Bradley Strong had a one-run single in the inning. Tanner
English singled home an insurance run in the eighth.
Brady
Anderson pitched 4.1 innings,
giving up two runs on six hits and no walks with three strikeouts. He
threw seventy pitches in his first start of the season. Michael
Theofanopoulos pitched 2.2 scoreless innings. Williams
Ramirez pitched a scoreless inning to drop his ERA to 1.80 and Sam
Clay pitched a scoreless inning to make his ERA 2.53. Strong and Kevin
Garcia were each 2-for-4. Chris Paul was 1-for-3
with a walk and is batting .331. English was 1-for-4 and is
batting .308.
CEDAR RAPIDS 6, WISCONSIN 3 IN WISCONSIN
Jaylin
Davis hit a two-run homer in the fourth to give the
Kernels a 3-1 lead. Davis led off the sixth with a double
that started a three-run rally and made it 6-1. In the bottom of the
ninth, the Timber Rattlers scored two and had the tying run up to bat with two
out, but Monte Harrison was called out on strikes to end the game.
Harrison was then ejected from a game that was already over, an action
which would appear to be primarily symbolic.
Domenick
Carlini had his best game of the season, going six
innings and giving up one run on six hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
Colton Davis pitched two shutout innings to lower his ERA to
2.65. Davis was 3-for-5 and hit two home runs, his eighth and
ninth. Brandon Lopez was 2-for-4.
