Dominican League: Games of December 21

ESTE 4, ORIENTE 3 IN ESTE

Twins: Miguel Sano (Oriente) was 0-for-4 with an RBI. Drew Butera (Oriente) was 1-for-3.
Game summary: Este took a 3-0 lead after five, but Oriente cut it to 3-2 in the sixth. Este got an insurance run in the eighth and needed it, as Oriente scored once in the ninth and put the tying run into scoring position with two out.
Oriente: Leandro Castro (Philadelphia) was 2-for-2 with a double, a run, and an RBI. Victor Moreno struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.
Este: Claudio Vargas (Toronto) struck out seven in 5.1 innings, allowing one run on one hit and two walks. Jose Constanza (Atlanta) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.

AGULIAS 6, CIBAO 4 IN AGUILAS

Game summary: Leading 3-2, Aguilas scored three times in the fifth. Cibao got two in the ninth but did not get the tying run up to bat.
Cibao: Rhyne Hughes was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer. Robinzon Diaz was 1-for-3 with a homer and a walk.
Aguilas: Manny Ramirez was 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs. Francisco Pena (Mets) was 2-for-2 with a double and scored once.

ESCOGIDO 3, LICEY 1 IN ESCOGIDO

Game summary: Licey scored in the first, but Escogido came back with single runs in the third, fourth, and seventh.
Licey: Donell Linares was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Hanley Ramirez (Dodgers) was 2-for-3.
Escogido: Daniel Cabrera worked seven innings, allowing one run on seven hits and a walk.

NOTE

This concludes the regular season schedule in the Dominican League. However, it appears that Cibao and Escogido will compete in a playoff game tonight for the fourth playoff spot.
