VENEZUELAN LEAGUE
Twins: Leonardo Reginatto (Margarita) was a combined 2-for-6 with a walk
in a doubleheader.
LA GUAIRA 6, ANZOATEGUI 3 IN LA GUAIRA
La Guaira scored three in the fifth to take a
5-1 lead and was in control the rest of the way. Danry Vasquez and
Arvicent Perez were each 3-for-3 for La Guaira.
MAGALLANES 3, ZULIA 1 IN MAGALLANES
Magallanes scored two in the second and one in
the third and led all the way. Elian Leyva pitched 4.1 innings, giving up
one run on two hits and four walks with three strikeouts.
ARAGUA 2, MARGARITA 0 IN MARGARITA (GAME 1--7
INNINGS)
Aragua got both of its run in the fifth on
consecutive RBI doubles by Carlos Penalver and Alberto Gonzalez. Penalver
was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Robert Zarate struck out six in
five shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.
MARGARITA 8, ARAGUA 4 IN MARGARITA (GAME 2--7
INNINGS)
Aragua scored four in the first, but that was
it. Margarita tied it in the third and scored four in the sixth to win
the game. Alberti Chavez was 2-for-3 with a double to lead
Margarita. Jose Vargas hit a grand slam, his fifth homer, for Aragua.
CARACAS 5, LARA 4 IN LARA (12 INNINGS)
It was tied 4-4 after five and stayed there
until the twelfth, when Jesus Guzman led off with a home run for Caracas.
Alexander Palma was 3-for-5 with a triple. Elvis Escobar was 3-for-5 for
Lara and Rangel Ravelo was 3-for-6 with two doubles. Gabriel Lino homered
for Lara.
MEXICAN LEAGUE
Twins: None.
MAZATLAN 5, LOS MOCHIS 2 IN MAZATLAN
Mazatlan scored all five of their runs in the
third inning. Carlos Munoz was 3-for-3 with a walk. Oscar Verdugo
pitched 5.2 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and three
walks with two strikeouts. Saul Soto was 3-for-4 for Los Mochis.
JALISCO 5, CULIACAN 2 IN CULIACAN
Edson Garcia hit a pinch-hit three-run homer
in the ninth to break a 2-2 tie. Brock Stassi was 2-for-4 with a
double. Tyler Alexander struck out five in five innings, giving up three
hits and two walks.
MEXICALI 4, NAVOJOA 1 IN MEXICALI
Xorge Carrillo doubled and scored in the fifth
to break a 1-1 tie. They added two more in the seventh. Carrillo
was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. C. J. Retherford was 1-for-3 with
three RBIs. Edgar Osuna pitched five innings, giving up one run on five
hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
OBREGON 6, HERMOSILLO 3 IN OBREGON
Hermosillo scored three in the first, but
Obregon got two in the second and four in the fourth. Jose Herberto Felix
was 3-for-4 with two doubles. Cedric Hunter hit a home run, his fourth.
DOMINICAN LEAGUE
Twins: None.
ESCOGIDO 5, ESTE 1 IN ESCOGIDO
It was 1-1 through five, but Escogido scored
two in the sixth and two in the seventh. Wilkin Castillo was 3-for-4 with
a double. Willi Castro was 3-for-4. Justin Haley (remember him?)
pitched five innings, giving up one run on five hits and a walk with four
strikeouts. Alexi Casilla (remember him?) was 3-for-3 with a walk for
Este. Elih Villanueva pitched five innings, giving up one run on eight
hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
ORIENTE 4, LICEY 1 IN ORIENTE
Licey led 1-0, but Oriente scored three in the
seventh to take the lead to stay. Socrates Brito was 2-for-3 with a
triple. Evan MacLane pitched five innings, giving up one run on four hits
and a walk with two strikeouts. Engel Beltre was 3-for-3 for Licey.
Jair Jurrjens (remember him?) pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits
and no walks with four strikeouts.
AGUILAS 4, GIGANTES 0 AT AGUILAS
All four runs scored in the seventh, two on a
home run by Ronny Rodriguez. Rodriguez was 2-for-4. Richelson Pena
struck out three in 3.1 innings of scoreless relief, giving up two hits and two
walks. For the Gigantes, Josh Roenicke (remember him?) struck out five in
4.2 scoreless innings, giving up four hits and no walks.
