The Red Wings come
back only to go away again. LaMonte Wade homers twice to lead Chattanooga
to a win. Nik Turley pitches five no-hit innings, but the Lookouts lose
anyway. Fort Myers scores in double digits. The Kernels give up double
digit scoring.
GWINNETT 7, ROCHESTER 6 IN GWINNETT
The Red Wings trailed
5-2 after seven. RBI singles by Matt Hague and Daniel
Palka made it 5-4 after eight and a two-run triple by J. B.
Shuck put Rochester up 6-5 going to the bottom of the ninth.
After retiring the first batter in the bottom of the ninth, Alex
Wimmers issued three consecutive walks to load the bases and Lane
Adams singled to left to win the game for the Braves.
Jose
Berrios struck out five in five innings, giving up
four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks, raising his ERA to 1.42.
Palka was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fifth, and is batting
.326. Mitch Garver also homered and is batting .364. Shuck was
2-for-5. Tommy Field and Leonardo Reginatto were
each 2-for-4, with the latter now batting .400. Matt Hague was
1-for-5 and is batting .383.
CHATTANOOGA 3, BILOXI 1 IN CHATTANOOGA (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED
GAME)
LaMonte
Wade homered in the fourth to put the Lookouts up
1-0 and homered again in the seventh to give them a 2-1 lead. A sacrifice
fly scored an insurance run in the eighth. The Shuckers had men on first
and third with one out in the ninth, but a pair of popups to short ended the
game.
Matt
Tracy had pitched two shutout innings the night
before, when the game was suspended. Fernando Romero picked
up from there, going 5.2 innings and giving up just one run on six hits and one
walk with four strikeouts. John Curtiss struck out two
in 1.1 scoreless innings. Wade's homers were his first two of the
season and he is batting .156. Nick Gordon was 3-for-4 with a
triple and a double and is batting .341. Ryan Walker was
1-for-4 and is batting .308. Edgar Corcino was 1-for-4 and is
batting .314. Five Chattanooga starters have averages under .200.
BILOXI 7, CHATTANOOGA 4 IN CHATTANOOGA (SCHEDULED GAME--7
INNINGS)
The Lookouts led 3-0
after five, but the Shuckers scored four in the sixth, highlighted by a
three-run triple by Jacob Nottingham. Chattanooga loaded the bases with
none out in the bottom of the sixth but only got one run out of it, tying the
score 4-4. In the seventh, Mauricio Dubon hit a two-run homer to give
Biloxi the lead for good and Victor Roache singled in an insurance run.
Nik
Turley pitched five hitless innings, giving up three
walks and striking out four. He was removed at that point with a pitch
count of seventy-six. It was his third appearance of the season and the
most innings he has pitched in a game. In 13.1 innings, he has allowed no
earned runs, three hits, and four walks. Ryan Eades allowed
the four-run sixth and Luke Bard surrendered the three-run
seventh. Jose Gonazalez was 2-for-3 and is batting .375.
Engelb Vielma was 2-for-4 and is batting .317. Nick
Gordon was 1-for-4 to make his average .333.
FORT MYERS 10, FLORIDA 3 IN FORT MYERS
The Miracle got two
doubles, three singles, and two walks in a four-run fourth that put them ahead
5-2. Kevin Garcia got a two-run single in a three-run fifth
that put the game out of reach.
Cody
Stashak struck out seven in four innings, giving up
two runs on four hits and two walks. Sam Clay pitched two
shutout innings of relief. Alex Perez was 3-for-5 and is
batting .352. Daniel Kihle was 2-for-3 with a double and is
batting .324. Garcia was 2-for-4 and Sean
Miller was 2-for-5. Chris Paul was 1-for-4 with a
double and is batting .333.
PEORIA 15, CEDAR RAPIDS 3 IN PEORIA
The Kernels scored
three in the top of the second to tie the score 3-3, but it was all downhill
from there. The Chiefs scored two in the second, one in the third, three
in the fourth, four in the fifth, and two in the seventh. They had 21
hits and were also helped by three Kernel errors and six walks. Tommy
Edman was a home run away from the cycle, going 4-for-6 with a double and two
triples.
Eduardo
Del Rosario, who had given up just one run on five hits
in his first two starts, lasted only two innings, surrendering five runs on
eight hits and two walks with just one strikeout. Catcher Caleb
Hamilton pitched the eighth inning and was the only pitcher to go
unscored upon, striking out two while giving up just a walk in a scoreless
inning. Unfortunately, he is also batting like a pitcher, going 0-for-3
to drop his average to .158. Jermaine Palacios was 2-for-4 to
raise his average to .356. Mitchell Kranson was 1-for-4 and
is batting .324. Aaron Whitefield was 1-for-4 with a double
and is batting .333.
