Arizona Fall League: Games of October 31


Twins players save their good performances for when they're needed.  The luck of the Irish was with the O'Briens.  Whitewash found in Salt River.

GLENDALE 10, PEORIA 2 IN PEORIA

Twins:  Byron Buxton was 1-for-4 with two walks and a run.  A. J. Achter pitched one inning, giving up two runs on two hits and no walks.
Glendale:  Travis Mattair (Cincinnati) was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Chris O'Brien (Dodgers) was 2-for-5 with a grand slam.  Jamie Walczak (Cincinnati) pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk with one strikeout.
Peoria:  Cory Spangenberg (San Diego) was 3-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer.
The game:  The O'Brien grand slam came in the second and put Glendale ahead 4-0.  Brandon Jacobs (White Sox) hit a two-run double in a five-run fifth that made it 9-0.  Both Peoria runs came in the eighth.

MESA 7, SCOTTSDALE 3 IN MESA

Scottsdale:  Peter O'Brien (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Kyle Kubitza (Atlanta) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Vidal Nuno (Yankees) struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.
Mesa:  C. J. Cron (Angels) was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.  Addison Russell (Oakland) was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Michael Roth (Angels) pitched four innings, allowing one run on four hits and no walks with one strikeout.
The game:  Scottsdale scored one in the third and still led 1-0 after five.  In the sixth, Brian Goodwin hit a two-run homer to ignite a three-run rally and put Mesa up 3-1.  Mesa got three more in the seventh, with Cron hitting a two-run single.  Scottsdale never got back into the game.

SALT RIVER 10, SURPRISE 0 IN SALT RIVER

Surprise:  Jorge Alfaro (Texas) was 2-for-4 with a double.
Salt River:  Tim Wheeler (Colorado) was 5-for-5 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in one.  Jacob Wilson (St. Louis) was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs.  Drew Hutchison (Toronto) pitched five innings, allowing two hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
The game:  Wilson hit a three-run homer in the second to start the scoring.  Salt River got two more in the third and another two in the fourth and the rout was on.
