Twins pitchers make the most of limited opportunities. Aaron Bates drives in the winner for Caguas. The old bases-loaded base on balls wins it for Mayaguez.
CAGUAS 3, PONCE 2 IN CAGUAS
Twins: Josue Montanez (Ponce) retired both batters he faced. Ryan O'Rourke (Caguas) retired the only man he faced.
Ponce: Ivan De Jesus was 2-for-4 with a double. Giancarlo Alvarado struck out five in 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and no walks.
Caguas: Rey Navarro was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Johnny Monell was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Michael Nix pitched five innings, allowing one run on four hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
The game: Ponce took a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth on a double play. In the bottom of the sixth, old friend Aaron Bates hit a two-run double to give Caguas a 3-2 lead. The last ten Ponce batters were retired.
MAYAGUEZ 5, SANTURCE 3 IN SANTURCE (11 INNINGS)
Twins: Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 1-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 0-for-4. Nelvin Fuentes (Mayaguez) pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.
Mayaguez: Michael Taylor (Washington) was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run, scoring twice. Chris Curley (White Sox) was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Jerry Sands (Pittsburgh) was 3-for-4 with a walk.
Santurce: Jonathan Singleton (Houston) was 2-for-3 with two walks and a double. Billy Hamilton (Cincinnati) was 2-for-6 with a double and two runs. David Harden pitched 4.1 innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
The game: Taylor hit a home run in the fifth to tie the score at three. It stayed there until the eleventh, when Mayaguez took the lead on a bases-loaded walk and got an insurance run on a sacrifice fly.
