ROCHESTER 7, PAWTUCKET 0 IN ROCHESTER
Batting stars: Kennys Vargas was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer (his sixth) and two walks, scoring twice. James Beresford was 3-for-5 with a run. Danny Santana was 2-for-5 with two runs.
Pitching stars: Pat Dean pitched eight shutout innings, giving up five hits and one walk with three strikeouts. A. J. Achter pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk with one strikeout.
Opposition stars: Matt Spring was 1-for-2 with a walk. Carlos Rivero was 1-for-3 with a walk.
The game: Vargas hit a three-run homer in the first inning to give the Red Wings a 3-0 lead. Aaron Hicks singled in a run in the fourth and the Red Wings tallied again in the fifth to make it 5-0. They added two more in the seventh. The Red Sox' best scoring chance came in the sixth, when Rivero was thrown out trying to score from second on a single.
Of note: Hicks was 1-for-5 with an RBI. Oswaldo Arcia was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
CHATTANOOGA 10, BIRMINGHAM 4 IN BIRMINGHAM (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars: Heiker Meneses was 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Stephen Wickens was 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs. Shannon Wilkerson was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.
Pitching star: J. T. Chargois faced five batters, striking out four and hitting the other one.
Opposition stars: Marcus Lemon was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer (his third) and a double. Tim Anderson was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his fifth. Brian Fletcher was 1-for-2 with a run.
The game: The Lookouts scored four runs on just one hit in the fourth inning, getting four walks and an error. It was 5-0 going to the bottom of the fifth, but then Lemon and Anderson each hit a two-run homer to make it 5-4 after five. In the seventh, Max Kepler had a two-run single in a five-run inning that put the game out of reach.
Of note: Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Kepler was 1-for-3 with two walks and an RBI. Travis Harrison was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. D. J. Hicks was 0-for-5. Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring twice. Greg Peavey pitched well for four innings, but his line is five innings, four runs, four hits, and one walk with four strikeouts.

Batting stars: D. J. Hicks was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, his fifth. Niko Goodrum was 1-for-2 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Travis Harrison was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.
Pitching star: Brett Lee struck out eight in a seven-inning complete game shutout, giving up two hits and two walks.
Opposition stars: Tony Bucciferro pitched five shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Christian Marrero was 1-for-3. Jeremy Dowdy was 1-for-3.
The game: It was scoreless until the sixth, when the Lookouts got all the game's runs. Goodrum singled in the first run and Hicks followed with a two-run homer. The Barons did not get a hit until the fifth and did not get a man past first base.
Of note: Shannon Wilkerson was 0-for-4. Jorge Polanco was 0-for-4. Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-3.

Pitching stars: Keaton Steele pitched eight innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and no walks with six strikeouts. John Curtiss struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars: Brian O'Keefe was 3-for-4 with a home run (his fifth) and three RBIs. Tyler Bray struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing one walk. Paul DeJong was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.
The game: The Kernels scored six in the second and the lead was never less than four after that. Alex Real had a two-run single in the inning.
Of note: Rafael P. Valera was 2-for-5 with a run. Edgar Corcino was 0-for-5.
BRISTOL 7, ELIZABETHTON 6 IN BRISTOL (GAME 1--9 INNINGS--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)
Batting stars: Jermaine Palacios was 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, and a walk, driving in two. Christian Cavaness was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Manuel Guzman was 2-for-4 with a run.
Pitching star: Josh Guyer struck out four in 2.1 innings, giving up two unearned runs on a hit and a walk.
Opposition stars: Billy Roth struck out seven in five innings, allowing a run on four hits and three walks. John Bormann was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one. Erik Lunde was 2-for-4 with a home run (his third) and a walk.
The game: The Twins trailed 4-0 after four and a half, but Cavaness singled in a run in the fifth and the Twins scored three in the sixth to tie it 4-4. Each team scored twice in the eighth, with Palacios delivering a two-out two-run double to tie it 6-6. Lunde homered with two out in the ninth to make it 7-6 Pirates lead. Lewin Diaz doubled with one out in the bottom of the ninth but did not advance past second base.
Of note: LaMonte Wade was 0-for-2 with three walks. Zander Wiel was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Brian Olson was 0-for-4 with a walk and a run. Andro Cutura struck out seven in five innings but gave up four runs (two earned) on eight hits and a walk.
ELIZABETHTON 11, BRISTOL 4 IN ELIZABETHTON (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)
Batting stars: Brad Hartong was 3-for-4 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in one. Daniel Kihle was 2-for-3 with a home run (his second) and a walk, scoring twice. A. J. Murray was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.
Pitching star: Anthony Mciver struck out six in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk.
Opposition stars: Carlos Ozuna was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Enyel Vallejo was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer. Sandy Santos was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.
The game: The Pirates led 3-2 after two. Kihle homered in the third to tie it 3-3. In the fourth, three walks and two errors led to three Twins runs to give them a 6-3 lead. The Twins added two in the fifth and three in the sixth to take control of the game.
