SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 3, ROCHESTER 1 IN ROCHESTER (11 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  None.

Pitching star:  Liam Hendriks worked seven shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Chris Dickerson was 3-for-5 with a walk.  Adam Warren struck out nine in eight innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks.

Key inning:  The eleventh.  The score was tied at one.  A single, a bunt, an error, and a walk loaded the bases for the Yankees with one out.  A strikeout gave the Red Wings hope, but Dickerson delivered a two-run single for what turned out to be the winning runs.

Other:  Rochester had only two hits in the game.

BINGHAMTON 9, NEW BRITAIN 8 IN BINGHAMTON (GAME 1—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Rene Tosoni was 3-for-4 with two doubles.  Nathan Hanson was 2-for-3 with a home run, his fifth.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Juan Lagares was 3-for-4.  Dustin Martin was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring three times.

Key inning:  The seventh.  It was a 6-6 tie.  Aaron Hicks led off the inning with a home run to put the Rock Cats in the lead.  Chris Herrmann singled, Oswaldo Arcia doubled, and Chris Colabello singled in an insurance run.  A walk loaded the bases, still with none out, but a strikeout and a double play ended the inning.  The failure to get more proved costly, as the Mets came back with three to win the game.  Two walks, a single, and an error brought in one run and loaded the bases with one out.  The next batter hit into a force out to score two, as Martin scored all the way from second on the play to give Binghamton the victory.

NEW BRITAIN 8, BINGHAMTON 1 IN BINGHAMTON (GAME 2—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Aaron Hicks was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk.  Chris Colabello was 2-for-4.  Oswaldo Arcia hit a grand slam, his sixth homer of the season.

Pitching star:  Andrew Albers struck out five in five shutout innings, allowing just one hit and no walks.

Opposition star:  Francisco Pena hit a home run.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Rock Cats led 1-0.  Deibinson Romero and Daniel Rohlfing led off the inning with doubles to make it 2-0.  Two-out walks to Hicks and Rene Tosoni loaded the bases, and Arcia hit a grand slam to put New Britain ahead 6-0.

FORT MYERS 22, JUPITER 5 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Lance Ray was 4-for-6 with a double and two home runs, giving him thirteen.  He had seven RBIs.  Steven Liddle was 4-for-5 with a double, scoring three times and driving in three.  Angel Morales was 3-for-6 with a double and a home run (his sixth), driving in three.

Pitching star:  Nelvin Fuentes struck out three in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition star:  Ryan Fisher was 2-for-3.

Key inning:  The third.  The Miracle led 2-1.  Liddle led off the inning with a single and two walks loaded the bases.  Ray then hit a grand slam.  The rally was not killed, as Kyle Knudson singled.  With one out, Morales singled and a walk loaded the bases again.  Another walk forced in a run, Liddle singled in another, Josmil Pinto doubled in two, and a sacrifice fly brought in one more.  When the inning was over, nine runs had scored and Fort Myers led 11-1.

Other:  Carl Pavano made a rehab start, giving up one run on two hits.

BELOIT 10, WISCONSIN 4 IN BELOIT

Batting stars:  Nate Roberts was 3-for-5 with a double and a triple, scoring three times.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run (his eighth), driving in four.  Tyler Grimes was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Pitching star:  Steven Gruver threw two shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Cameron Garfield was 2-for-4.  Chadwin Stang was 2-for-5 with a double.  Nick Ramirez was 2-for-5.

Key inning:  The fourth.  The Snappers led 4-2.  With two on and two out, Miguel Sano hit a two-run triple to give Beloit a substantial lead.

JOHNSON CITY 4, ELIZABETHTON 2 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Max Kepler was 2-for-5 with two doubles.  Candido Pimentel was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitching stars:  Chris Mazza struck out two in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Luis Nunez walked two in two shutout innings.

Opposition stars:  C. J. McElroy was 2-for-4 with a double.  Juan Bautista allowed one run on five hits and three walks, striking out five in 5.1 innings.

Key inning:  The third.  The Cardinals led 1-0 when they came up with a three-run inning.   A McElroy double and a home run by Ildemaro Vargas made the score 3-0.  Adam Ehrlich then singled and scored on a double by Jeremy Schaffer to put Johnson City up 4-0.

GCL TWINS 4, RAYS 2 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Bryan Santy was 3-for-4 with a double.  Jeremias Pineda was 3-for-5.

Pitching star:  Gonzalo Sanudo struck out four in five innings of scoreless relief, giving up only one hit.

Opposition stars:  Jiminson Natera was 2-for-4 with a double.  Jordan Harrison worked four shutout innings, giving up five hits and a walk.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The Twins trailed 2-0.  A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out.  A wild pitch brought in one, John Murphy put the Twins ahead with a two-run single, and Santy doubled in an insurance run.

Other:  Kyle Gibson started and pitched three innings.  He allowed a run on three hits and a walk and struck out four.

DSL TWINS 15, PADRES 4 AT TWINS (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

Batting stars:  Eddy Concepcion was 3-for-5 with a triple, driving in three.  Junior Amarante was 3-for-5.  Jorge Andrade was 2-for-5.

Pitching stars:  Reudis Reyes and Elias Villasana each pitched a scoreless inning, each walking one.

Opposition stars:  Jose Urena was 3-for-3 with a walk.  Moises Lendor was 2-for-4.

Key inning:  The third.  It was a 1-1 tie.  The Twins scored three runs without a hit, getting two hit batsmen, a walk, a wild pitch, and two errors.  Rafael P. Valera then singled in a run, the only Twins hit of the inning.  Another error plated two more runs and gave the Twins a 7-1 lead.

Other:  There were ten errors in the game, seven by the Padres.

Pitching stars:  Reyson Zoquiel and Fernando Romero each struck out four in two shutout innings.

Opposition stars:  Ricardo Valenzuela was 2-for-3.  Ivan Marcano allowed one run on three hits and a walk in six innings.

Key inning:  The seventh.  Leading 2-1, the Padres scored an insurance run, as Moises Lendor singled, stole second, stole third, and scored on a sacrifice fly.
