NEW BRITAIN 3, AKRON 1 IN NEW BRITAIN (GAME 1—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Nathan Hanson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.  Deibinson Romero was 2-for-3.  Matt Rizzotti was 1-for-1 with two walks.

Pitching star:  Steve Hirschfeld struck out eight in six innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Ryan Rohlinger hit a home run.  Steven Wright allowed two unearned runs on six hits and three walks in five innings.

Key inning:  The sixth.  With the Rock Cats leading 2-1, the Aeros put runners on first and second with two out but did not score.  New Britain got an insurance run when James Beresford walked, went to third on an error, and scored on Hanson’s sacrifice fly.

AKRON 4, NEW BRITAIN 1 IN NEW BRITAIN (GAME 2—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting star:  Daniel Rohlfing was 1-for-3 with a double.

Pitching star:  Logan Darnell struck out five in 4.2 innings, giving up a run on two hits and four walks.

Opposition stars:  Chun-Hsiu Chen was 1-for-1 with three walks.  Brett Brach allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out none in six innings.

Key inning:  The seventh.  Leading 1-0, the Aeros struck for three.  Ben Copeland led off the inning with a homer, and a pair of walks followed.  The next two batters went out, but Nick Weglarz delivered a two run double.  The Rock Cats came back to score once and load the bases with none out, but Preston Guilmet came on to retire the next three batters.

FORT MYERS 8, BRADENTON 4 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Anderson Hidalgo was 3-for-4 with a double.  Lance Ray was 2-for-4 with a double.  Angel Morales hit a three run homer.

Pitching stars:  Matthew Hauser started and allowed only one hit in three innings, striking out three and walking none.  Daniel Sattler gave up no hits in two innings, walking two and striking out two.

Opposition stars:  Stefan Welch was 2-for-4.  Casey Sadler struck out four in 3.1 scoreless innings.

Key inning:  The fourth.  After the Marauders scored in the top of the inning to tie the game at one, the Miracle put together a six run rally.  It was all done by hitting—there were no walks and no errors in the inning.  Fort Myers had four doubles and two singles in the inning, but the big hit was the three run homer by Morales.

PEORIA 7, BELOIT 1 IN BELOIT

Batting star:  JaDamion Williams was 1-for-4 with a double.

Pitching star:  Working out of the bullpen for the first time this year, Tim Shibuya struck out two while giving up no hits and no walks in 2.1 scoreless innings.

Opposition stars:  Javier Baez was 2-for-3 with a home run.  Dustin Geiger was 2-for-5 with a home run.  Jose Rosario allowed one run on three hits and two walks in 6.1 innings.

Key inning:  The first.  A single, an error, and three more singles plated three runs for the Chiefs.  The Snappers never got back into the game.

Other:  Beloit’s magic number is one to clinch a playoff spot (the first half of the season is nearly over)…Remember to vote for Snappy D. Turtle in the final four of Mascot Mania!

DSL ROCKIES 7, TWINS 4 AT ROCKIES

Batting stars:  Francis Mateo was 2-for-4.  Adonis Pacheco was 2-for-5.

Pitching star:  Sebastian Perez gave up two unearned runs in two innings, allowing two hits and walking none.

Opposition stars:  Luis Jean was 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.  Helmis Rodriguez worked five shutout innings, allowing three hits and two walks.

Key inning:  The eighth.  Trailing 4-1, the Twins put together a hit batsman, an error, and four singles to score three times and tie the game.  The Rockies came back with two singles, a walk, and a Miguel Dilone double to get all three runs back and put the game away.
