Games of August 19

Pat Dean pitches a complete game shutout.  Max Kepler and Brett Lee have big days.  Jason Kanzler gets three hits.  Felix Jorge pitches well.  Roberto Gonzalez has a good game.  The DSL Twins are nearly no-hit.

ROCHESTER 6, BUFFALO 0 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Doug Bernier was 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs.  James Beresford was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Byron Buxton was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.
Pitching star:  Pat Dean pitched a complete game shutout, giving up six hits and no walks with six strikeouts.
Opposition stars:  Dalton Pompey was 2-for-4.  Greg Burke pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout.
The game:  Danny Santana singled home two runs in the first and the Red Wings added two in the second to go ahead 4-0.  The Red Wings drew six walks in the first two innings.  It stayed 4-0 until the sixth, when Rochester scored two more.  The biggest Bisons threat came in the third, when they opened the inning with three consecutive singles to load the bases.  A strikeout and a double play turned the threat aside.
Of note:  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 0-for-3 with two walks and a run.  Kennys Vargas was 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI.  Santana was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.  Oswaldo Arcia was 0-for-4.

CHATTANOOGA 11, PENSACOLA 0 IN PENSACOLA

Batting stars:  Max Kepler was 4-for-5 with a two-run homer (his ninth) and a walk, scoring twice.  Jorge Polanco was 2-for-5 with a home run (his sixth), a double, and a walk, scoring three times and driving in two.  Stuart Turner was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.
Pitching stars:  Brett Lee pitched seven shutout innings, giving up two hits and four walks with four strikeouts.  Corey Williams pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.  Alex Muren pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Alex Blandino was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Yovan Gonzalez was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Joel Bender struck out six in four shutout innings, allowing four hits and one walk.
The game:  Niko Goodrum had a two-run double in a five-run first.  Kepler hit a two-run homer and Turner a two-run double in a four-run second, and the rout was on.  Blandino reached third base in the first and again in the sixth, but no other Blue Wahoo did.
Of note:  Stephen Wickens was 1-for-5 with a double and a walk.  D. J. Hicks was 0-for-5.  Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

FORT MYERS 6, CHARLOTTE 4 IN CHARLOTTE

Batting stars:  Jason Kanzler was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.  Mitch Garver was 2-for-5 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in one.  Logan Wade was 3-for-4 with a triple and a run.
Pitching stars:  Luke Westphal struck out seven in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.  Trevor Hildenberger retired all five batters he faced with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Hector Guevera was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs.  Mike Marjama was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.  Jordan Harrison pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks with one strikeout.
The game:  Marcus Knecht had a two-run single in a three-run third that put the Miracle ahead 4-0.  Single runs in the fifth and sixth made it 6-0.  The Stone Crabs got two in the sixth and two in the eighth to cut the lead to 6-4.  They brought the tying run up to bat with one out in the eighth but their last five batters were retired.
Of note:  Engelb Vielma was 0-for-5.  Aderlin Mejia was 0-for-3 with two walks and a run.  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-3 with a run.

CEDAR RAPIDS 4, KANE COUNTY 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Rafael P. Valera was 1-for-1 with three walks and two runs.  Edgar Corcino was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  T. J. White was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.
Pitching stars:  Felix Jorge pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  Jared Wilson pitched a perfect inning.  Nick Anderson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars:  Chuck Taylor was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Victor Reyes was 2-for-3 with a double.  Nick Baker pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing only a walk.
The game:  RBI singles by Taylor and Henry Castillo put the Cougars up 2-1 in the top of the third.  In the bottom of the third, Corcino singled in the tying run and two more runs scored on an error to put the Kernels up 4-2.  And that was the end of the scoring.  The Cougars put the tying run on base in the fifth but never did so again.
Of note:  Nick Gordon was 1-for-4 with a run.

ELIZABETHTON TWINS

GCL ORIOLES 6, GCL TWINS 2 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Roberto Gonzalez was 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.  Rowan Ebersohn was 2-for-4 with a run.  Ariel Montesino was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.
Pitching star:  Moises Gomez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two walks.
Opposition stars:  Daniel Fajardo was 2-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in two.  Jaylen Ferguson was 2-for-4 with a triple and a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Kirvin Moesquit was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring once.
The game:  Gonzalez singled in a run in the first and Luis Arraez did the same in the second to put the Twins ahead 2-0, but it was all Orioles after that.  Branden Becker had a two-run single in a three-run fourth that put the Orioles in the lead 3-2.  Jason Heinrich doubled home a run in the seventh and Fajardo doubled in two in the ninth to make it 6-2.  The Twins loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, bringing the tying run to the plate, but a double play ended the game.
Of note:  Arraez was 1-for-5 with an RBI.  Robert Molina was 0-for-3.  Jose Martinez pitched five innings, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

DSL DODGERS 6, DSL TWINS 1 AT DODGERS

Batting stars:  Antonio Tovar was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Jose Bermudez was 1-for-3 with an RBI.  Those were the only two hits the Twins had.
Pitching star:  Carlos Suniaga struck out two in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits.
Opposition stars:  Adalberto Pena struck out eight in six perfect innings.  Luis Paz was 3-for-4 with a triple, scoring twice and driving in two.  Jhoan Calderon was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
The game:  Paz tripled in a run and later scored in the first inning to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead.  Daniel Padilla had a two-run single in a four-run fourth that made it 6-0.  The Twins did not get a hit until the seventh and scored their lone run in the eighth on two walks and a Bermudez single.
Of note:  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 0-for-4.  Gorge Munoz was 0-for-2 with two walks.  Junior Amarante was 0-for-4.  Danny Feliz pitched 5.1 innings, giving up six runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Games of August 18

A good day for Byron Buxton.  A bad day for Greg Peavey.  The Miracle uses only two pitchers in a doubleheader.  Fine pitching by Keaton Steele.  Cody Stashak throws five hitless innings.  A perfect day for Jorge Andrade.  Jorge Parra hits a walkoff for the DSL Twins.

ROCHESTER 6, BUFFALO 5 IN ROCHESTER

Pitching stars:  Tim Shibuya pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.  Mark Hamburger pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.  Michael Tonkin pitched a perfect inning.
Opposition stars:  Alex Hassan was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Josh Thole was 0-for-1 with three walks and two runs.  Bobby Korecky pitched two shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk with one strikeout.
The game:  Vargas had a two-run double in a four-run first that put the Red Wings up 4-0.  RBI singles by Argenis Diaz and Buxton made it 6-0 after four.  Hassan's two-run single capped a three-run fifth that put the Bisons back in the game at 6-3.  They added two in the eighth to make it 6-5 and had men on first and second with two out, but the last four Bisons were retired.
Of note:  James Beresford was 2-for-4 with a run.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Logan Darnell pitched 5.2 innings, giving up three unearned runs on three hits and five walks with three strikeouts.

PENSACOLA 8, CHATTANOOGA 4 IN PENSACOLA

Batting stars:  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fifth.  Max Kepler was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
Pitching stars:  Alex Wimmers struck out three in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and no walks.  Brandon Peterson pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.  D. J. Johnson pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and one walk with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Beau Amaral was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer (his fourth) and a walk, scoring twice.  Juan Duran was 1-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in three.  Bryson Smith was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
The game:  Duran hit a two-run triple and scored later in the first inning to put the Blue Wahoos up 3-0.  They added three in the second to make it 6-0.  Kepler had a two-run single-plus-error in a three-run third that got the Lookouts back into the game at 6-3, but Amaral hit a two-run homer in the sixth that put it out of reach.
Of note:  Stephen Wickens was 1-for-4 with a run.  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4.  D. J. Hicks was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-2 with two walks.  Greg Peavey pitched only 1.1 innings, giving up six runs on four hits and four walks with one strikeout.

FORT MYERS 4, CHARLOTTE 1 IN FORT MYERS (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-3 with a home run.  Logan Wade was 1-for-2 with a double and a run.  Tanner Vavra was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Pitching star:  Stephen Gonsalves struck out seven in a seven-inning complete game, giving up one run on four hits and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Jace Conrad was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.  Braxton Lee was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
The game:  Pinto homered in the fourth to put the Miracle up 1-0.  The Stone Crabs tied it in the fifth, but Vavra hit a three-run single-plus-error to give the Miracle a 4-1 lead.  The Stone Crabs did not get a hit after the fifth.
Of note:  Engelb Vielma was 0-for-3.  Aderlin Mejia was 1-for-3.  Mitch Garver was 0-for-3.

FORT MYERS 5, CHARLOTTE 2 IN FORT MYERS (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Tanner Vavra was 2-for-2 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Aderlin Mejia as 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.  Marcus Knecht was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.
Pitching star:  Kohl Stewart pitched a seven-inning complete game, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
Opposition stars:  Mike Marjama was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Granden Goetzman was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Hector Guevera was 1-for-3 with a run.
The game:  Each team scored two in the third.  It stayed 2-2 until the fifth, when Mejia doubled in the go-ahead run.  The Miracle added two more in the sixth.  The Stone Crabs did not get a baserunner after the third inning.
Of note:  Engelb Vielma was 0-for-3 with a run.  Josmil Pinto was 0-for-3.  Mitch Garver was 0-for-3.

KANE COUNTY 1, CEDAR RAPIDS 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Zack Larson was 2-for-3 with a double.  Edgar Corcino was 2-for-4.
Pitching stars:  Keaton Steele pitched eight innings, giving up one run on three hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  Michael Theofanopoulos pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.
Opposition star:  Josh Taylor pitched six shutout innings, allowing five hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
The game:  The game's opening batter, Chuck Taylor, was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on a single, and scored on a force out.  And that was it for the scoring.  The Kernels best scoring chance came in the sixth, when a pair of singles put men on first and third with none out.  A failed double steal of second and home was followed by a strikeout and a ground out to end the threat.
Of note:  Rafael P. Valera was 1-for-4.  Nick Gordon was 1-for-4.  T. J. White was 0-for-3 with a walk.

ELIZABETHTON 6, DANVILLE 2 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Kamran Young was 2-for-4 with a triple and a double, scoring once and driving in four.  LaMonte Wade was 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI.  Manuel Guzman was 0-for-2 with two walks and a run.
Pitching stars:  Cody Stashak struck out six in five innings, giving up an unearned run on no hits and two walks.  Kuo Hua Lo retired all six batters he faced, four by strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Jose Morel was 1-for-4 with a double.  Ben Libuda struck out three in 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing only a walk.  Fernando Miranda pitched two shutout innings, allowing no hits and no walks with one strikeout.
The game:  Young had a two-run triple and later scored in a four-run second that put the Twins up 4-0.  The Braves worked their way back, getting one in the fifth and one in the eighth to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the bottom of the eighth, though, Young struck again, delivering a two-run double that put the game out of reach.
Of note:  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-4.  Lewin Diaz was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Brian Olson was 1-for-2 with a run.

GCL ORIOLES 5, GCL TWINS 3 AT ORIOLES

Batting stars:  Jorge Andrade was 3-for-3.  Roberto Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a run.  Ariel Montesino was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.
Pitching stars:  None.
Opposition stars:  Carlos Diaz was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, driving in one.  Jason Heinrich was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Gerrion Grim was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fifth.
The game:  Blake Schmit had a two-run single in the first that put the Twins ahead 2-0, but the Orioles scored once in the bottom of the first to make it 2-1.  Grim homered in the fourth to tie it, a passed ball put the Orioles ahead 3-2 in the fifth, and Diaz doubled in a run in the sixth to make it 4-2.  The Twins loaded the bases with none out in the seventh, but only managed to score one.  The Twins threatened in the eighth and ninth as well, but failed to score.  The Orioles added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth.
Of note:  Christian Cavaness was hit by a pitch in the first inning.  He continued to run the bases, but then was removed from the game.  Luis Arraez was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.  Schmit was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.  Williams Ramirez pitched 4.2 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

DSL TWINS 7, DSL ORIOLES2 6 AT TWINS (12 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Jorge Parra was 4-for-7 with three runs and an RBI.  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 3-for-5 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.  Gorge Munoz was 2-for-5 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.
Pitching stars:  Erick Balbuena struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Randolph Perez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Ivan Mora was 3-for-6 with a run and two RBIs.  Pedro Flores was 1-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Luis Hernandez was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.
The game:  The Orioles2 scored three in the first and led 4-0 after an inning and a half.  They still led 5-2 going to the bottom of the seventh, but a wild pitch in that frame made it 5-3 and RBI singles by Encarnacion and Munoz in the ninth tied the score.  Each team scored once in the eleventh.  In the twelfth, two walks and a single loaded the bases with one out.  Parra then singled in the winning run.
Of note:  Antonio Tovar was 2-for-5 with a walk and an RBI.  Junior Amarante was 2-for-7.  Juan Herrera struck out nine in five innings, but gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits and no walks.

Games of August 17

The Red Wings win a tight one.  Manuel Guzman and Andro Cutura lead the E-Twins.  Not much good news from the GCL.  Fredderi Soto again pitches well for the DSL Twins.

ROCHESTER 4, BUFFALO 3 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Xavier Avery was 1-for-3 with a home run, his sixth.  Jose Martinez was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.
Pitching stars:  Taylor Rogers pitched 6.2 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on ten hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Michael Tonkin struck out two in a perfect inning.
Opposition stars:  Alex Hassan was 3-for-4 with a double and a run.  Jonathan Diaz was 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
The game:  Avery homered in the second to put the Red Wings on top 1-0, but the Bisons tied it in the third and went up 3-1 in the fourth.  Rodriguez delivered a two-run single in the fifth to tie it 3-3 and Martinez homered in the sixth to make it 4-3 Red Wings.  The Bisons did not get a man past first after that.
Of note:  James Beresford was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-4.  Danny Ortiz was 0-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Andro Cutura pitched six shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Anthony Mciver struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Alex Robinson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Juan Yepez was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Grayson Jones pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk with one strikeout.
The game:  Leading 1-0 after three, the Twins scored three in the fourth to take control of the game.  Guzman drove in two of the three with a two-run single.  The Twins added two more in the seventh.  The Braves did not get a man past second base.

Pitching star:  Andrew Vasquez struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Ryan Mountcastle was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Frank Crinella was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Kirvin Moesquit was 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.
The game:  Each team scored two in the first.  Moesquit delivered a two-run single in the second to put the Orioles up 4-2.  The Twins got one back in the fifth, but the Orioles scored two more in the sixth on a pair of sacrifice flies to go ahead 6-3.  The last ten Twins were retired.
Of note:  Christian Cavaness was 2-for-4.  Luis Arraez was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Aaron Whitefield made his debut, going 0-for-3.  Jovani Moran pitched three innings, giving up four runs on four hits and two walks with one strikeout.

Batting stars:  Oliver Tejada was 3-for-4.  Gorge Munoz was 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk.  Junior Amarante was 0-for-2 with two walks and a run.
Pitching stars:  Huascar Ynoa pitched five innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Fredderi Soto struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars:  Ivan Mora was 3-for-4 with a double.  Nichel Alcantara pitched four innings, allowing one run on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Fernando Escarra pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
The game:  Each team scored once in the fourth.  A pair of errors led to two Orioles2 runs in the fifth.  And that was it for scoring.  After their run in the fourth, the Twins' biggest threat was in the eighth, when they got a pair of walks, but a caught stealing took them out of the inning.
Of note:  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 0-for-3.  Antonio Tovar was 1-for-4.

Batter:  Byron Buxton was 14-for-35 with a home run, a triple, a walk, and a stolen base.  For the season he is hitting .404/.440/.532 and is 2-for-3 in stolen bases in 47 at-bats.
Pitcher:  Tyler Duffey made one start, pitching six innings.  He gave up one hit and no walks with five strikeouts.  For the season he is 5-6, 2.53, 1.07 WHIP with 18 walks and 68 strikeouts in 85.1 innings (14 starts).
CHATTANOOGA (5-2)

Byron Buxton had a good day in support of David Hurlbut, who made a successful AAA debut.  Max Kepler stays hot.  Big days for Mat Batts and Engelb Vielma.  A walkoff loss for the Kernels.  A walkoff win for the E-Twins.

ROCHESTER 3, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 2 IN ROCHESTER (12 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Byron Buxton was 3-for-6 with a home run and two RBIs.  James Beresford was 3-for-5 with a run.  The Red Wings only had two other hits.
Pitching stars:  David Hurlbut, making his AAA debut, pitched 6.2 innings, giving up two runs on nine hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Alex Meyer struck out four in 4.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and two walks.  Mark Hamburger struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up two hits.
Opposition stars:  Kyle Roller was 3-for-5 with a triple and a run.  Rob Refsnyder was 2-for-6 with a run.  Kyle Haynes pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
The game:  The RailRiders scored a single run in each of the first two innings to go ahead 2-0.  The Red Wings scored once in the fourth and Buxton homered in the fifth to tie it 2-2.  And there things stood until the twelfth.  Jose Martinez led off with a single, went to second on a bunt, and scored on Buxton's single to win the game.
Of note:  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 1-for-5.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-3 with two walks.  Oswaldo Arcia was 0-for-5.

CHATTANOOGA 11, TENNESSEE 4 IN CHATTANOOGA

Batting stars:  Niko Goodrum was 3-for-5 with a home run (his fourth) and a triple, scoring three times and driving in four.  Max Kepler was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-3 with two walks, scoring twice and driving in one.
Pitching stars:  Alex Wimmers struck out three in two perfect innings.  D. J. Johnson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.  J. T. Chargois pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Willson Contreras was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Jonathan Mota was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Albert Almora was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.
The game:  The Smokies took the early lead, getting one in the second and three in the third to go up 4-0.  The Lookouts took over after that.  Goodrum tripled and scored to put them on the board in the bottom of the third.  They took the lead in the fifth, scoring five times.  Their first two batters went out, but then came a single, two walks, and three singles to make the score 6-4.  It was 7-4 after six.  In the seventh, Goodrum hit a two-run homer in a four-run inning to put the game out of reach.
Of note:  Stephen Wickens was 1-for-4 with a walk.  Levi Michael was 1-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  D. J. Hicks was 1-for-3 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.  Jason Wheeler pitched five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

FORT MYERS 5, CHARLOTTE 1 IN CHARLOTTE

Batting stars:  Engelb Vielma was 4-for-5 with a run.  Tanner Vavra was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.  Logan Wade was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.
Pitching stars:  Mat Batts struck out nine in eight innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks.  Todd Van Steensel pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Mike Marjama was 2-for-4 with a home run, his eighth.  Jordan Harrison pitched two shutout innings, allowing two hits.
The game:  Vielma had a two-run single-plus-error in a three-run second that put the Miracle up 3-0.  They added two in the fifth on Jason Kanzler's two-run triple.  The lone Stone Crabs run came on Marjama's homer leading off the seventh.
Of note:  Kanzler was 1-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs.  Aderlin Mejia was 1-for-4.  Mitch Garver was 0-for-4.

FORT WAYNE 7, CEDAR RAPIDS 6 IN FORT WAYNE (10 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Austin Diemer was 2-for-4 with a triple and a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Alex Real was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  Rafael P. Valera was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, driving in two.
Pitching stars:  Randy LeBlanc pitched four innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Luke Bard struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Nick Anderson struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars:  Josh VanMeter was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Edwin Moreno was 1-for-4 with a home run (his third) and a walk.  Thomas Dorminy pitched six innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits and three walks with two strikeouts.
The game:  It was 1-0 TinCaps after six, but the Kernels took the lead with a four-run seventh, capped by Valera's two-run double.  Diemer had an RBI triple in the eighth and later came around to score, giving the Kernels a 6-1 lead.  It looked good, but a two-run homer by Trae Santos was followed by Moreno's homer in the ninth to cut the lead to 6-4.  The next two batters went out, but two walks were followed by Luis Tejeda's two-run single to tie the game.  In the tenth, an error, an intentional walk, a wild pitch, and a single by Franmil Reyes ended the game.
Of note:  Sean Miller was 0-for-5.  Edgar Corcino was 0-for-3 with two walks.

ELIZABETHTON 6, DANVILLE 5 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Manuel Guzman was 3-for-4 with three runs.  Alex Perez was 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.  LaMonte Wade was 0-for-2 with three walks and a run.
Pitching star:  C. K. Irby struck out four in 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Justin Ellison was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer (his second) and a double.  Kurt Hoekstra was 2-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Joel Morel was 3-for-5 with a double.
The game:  The Braves jumped to an early lead, but Perez had a two-run single in a three-run second that tied the score 3-3.  It stayed 3-3 until the seventh, when an error put the Twins ahead 4-3.  Ellison's two-run homer gave the Braves a 5-4 lead in the top of the eighth, but Brian Olson singled home a run in the bottom of the eighth to tie it.  The Braves put men on first and third with one out in the ninth, but a double play ended the inning.  In the bottom of the ninth, a single, a bunt, an intentional walk, and an accidental walk loaded the bases.  A. J. Murray then singled home the winning run.
Of note:  Daniel Kihle was 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Lewin Diaz was 0-for-3.  Olson was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Miles Nordgren pitched 3.1 innings, giving up three runs on six hits and no walks with one strikeout.
