Dominican League: Games of November 23


Danny Santana leads Aguilas to victory.  A good day for Jorge Polanco.  Este only got hits in one inning, but it was enough.

ESTE 3, LICEY 2 IN ESTE

Twins:  Chris Colabello (Este) was 0-for-2.  Dan Rohlfing (Licey) was 1-for-2 with a walk.
Licey:  Anderson Hernandez was 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.  Ramon Ortiz (Toronto) pitched five shutout innings, giving up no hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
Este:  Pedro Feliz was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.  Chris Leroux struck out five in four shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks.
The game:  It was scoreless through six.  Este got all three of its runs and both of its hits in the seventh inning.  Jim Adduci (Texas) singled and was bunted to second.  Following an intentional walk, Feliz came through with a single-and-error, scoring both runners and leaving Feliz on third, from where he scored on a sacrifice fly.  Licey got both of its runs in the ninth and had a man on first with two out.

AGUILAS 7, ORIENTE 3 IN AGUILAS

Twins:  Danny Santana (Aguilas) was 3-for-5 with a triple, scoring twice and driving in two.
Oriente:  Junior Lake (Cubs) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Ed Rogers was 2-for-4.
Aguilas:  Dan Black (White Sox) was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.  Rafael Ynoa (Colorado) was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Lorenzo Barcelo pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
The game:  Leandro Castro doubled and scored to give Oriente a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth.  In the bottom of the fifth, a Ynoa double, a Santana triple, and a wild pitch made it 3-2 Aguilas.  In the sixth, Black singled in two of the four Aguilas runs to increase the lead to 7-2.

CIBAO 8, ESCOGIDO 2 IN ESCOGIDO

Twins:  Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 2-for-3 with a walk.
Cibao:  Carlos Paulino (Pittsburgh) was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Marcell Ozuna (Miami) was 3-for-5.  Francisco Pegueroa (San Francisco) was 2-for-4 with two runs.
Escogido:  Erick Almonte was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in one.  Carlos Pimentel (Cubs) pitched five innings, allowing one run on two hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
The game:  Doubles by Freddy Guzman, Gregory Polanco (Pittsburgh), and Almonte gave Escogido a 2-0 lead in the first.  It held up for five innings, but in the sixth, a single, a double, and a pair of productive outs tied the score.  Cibao took control in the seventh, scoring four times.  Two runs scored on an error, one on a ground-rule double by Paulino, and one on a sacrifice fly.  Two more Cibao runs in the eight put the game away.

Venezuelan League: Games of November 23


An exciting game in Anzoategui.  Mario is trying to make people Lisson.

ANZOATEGUI 9, CARACAS 8 IN ANZOATEGUI (13 INNINGS)

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 1-for-7.
Caracas:  Danny Dorn (Arizona) was 3-for-6 with a walk, a double, and a home run (his sixth), driving in three.  Bobby Abreu was 3-for-5 with a home run and two runs.  Ramon Cabrera (Detroit) was 3-for-5 with two doubles.
Anzoategui:  Jose Castillo was 2-for-6 with a walk and a three-run homer, his sixth.  Gorkys Hernandez was 2-for-6 with two walks and a home run (his second), scoring twice and driving in two.  Jose Gil (Yankees) was 3-for-6 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.
The game:  Castillo hit a three-run homer to give Anzoategui a 3-0 lead in the first.  Caracas pecked away and cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the fifth, but but in the bottom of the fifth Hernandez homered, a run scored on a wild pitch, and Gil singled in a run to make it 7-3.  Caracas kept battling back, cutting the lead to 7-5 after seven and taking an 8-7 lead in the top of the eighth on a two-run homer by Dorn and a solo homer by J. D. Martinez.  In the bottom of the eighth, Leslie Anderson (Tampa Bay) hit an RBI single to tie the score.  In the thirteenth, Gil doubled, went to third on a fly out, and scored on a Hernandez single to win the game.

LARA 12, ARAGUA 3 IN LARA

Twins:  Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 0-for-1 with two walks.
Aragua:  Yangervis Solarte was 2-for-5 with a double and a run.  Jonel Pacheco hit a home run in his only plate appearance.  Erik Arnesen pitched five innings of relief, giving up one run on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
Lara:  Nick Buss (Dodgers) was 2-for-3 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Luis Jimenez was 1-for-2 with two walks and a three-run homer (his third), scoring twice.  Guilder Rodriguez (Texas) was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.
The game:  Lara scored two in the first and seven in the second to put the game away early.  Jimenez hit a three-run homer and Buss hit a two-run triple in the big second inning.

LA GUAIRA 4, MARGARITA 3 IN LA GUAIRA

Margarita:  Alberto Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Carlos Rivero was 2-for-4.  Elias Diaz (Pittsburgh) was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.
La Guaira:  Alex Cabrera was 3-for-4 with two home runs (his eleventh and twelfth) and three RBIs.  Cesar Suarez was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Chris Reed (Dodgers) struck out six in six shutout innings, allowing three hits and one walk.
The game:  Salvador Perez (Kansas City) hit an RBI triple in the first-inning, followed by a two-run homer by Cabrera, giving La Guaira a 3-0 lead.  It was still 4-1 after eight.  Rodney Medina hit a pinch-hit two-run homer with one out in the ninth, but Margarita did not get a man on base after that.

MAGALLANES 9, ZULIA 4 IN MAGALLANES

Zulia:  Ender Inciarte (Arizona) was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Henry Rodriguez (Cincinnati)  Jose Sanchez pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks with two strikeouts.
Magallanes:  Argenis Diaz was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Adonis Garcia (Yankees) was 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI.  Mario Lisson was 1-for-2 with three walks and a grand slam (his eleventh homer), scoring twice.
The game:  Magallanes got two in the third to take a 2-0 lead.  Zulia came back with one in the fourth, but Magallanes scored five in the fourth to take command of the game.  A bases-loaded hit batsman scored one and Lisson's grand slam made it 7-1 and that lead was never threatened.

Australian League: Games of November 22


A good day for Logan Wade.  Frawleys do well.  And we're all caught up!

CANBERRA 4, BRISBANE 3 IN CANBERRA

Twins:  Logan Wade (Sydney) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in one.
Brisbane:  Brad Dutton was 2-for-4 with two runs.  Joey Rickard (Tampa Bay) was 1-for-3 with two walks and a double.
Canberra:  Jack Murphy (Toronto) was 3-for-4 with a double and a run.  Casey Frawley was 2-for-4 with two home runs.
The game:  Robbie Perkins (Colorado) hit a two-run single in the second and Frawley homered in the third to give Canberra a 3-0 lead.  It was still 4-1 Canberra going to the ninth.  Brisbane got two in the ninth and had runners on first and third with two out.

PERTH 7, MELBOURNE 2 IN PERTH

Melbourne:  Ryan Casteel (Oakland) was 2-for-4 with a home run.
Perth:  Jesse Barron was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.  Corey Adamson was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Jack Frawley pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
The game:  Melbourne scored single runs in the second and third and led 2-1 after five.  In the sixth, Perth struck for four, aided by two errors, a hit batsman, and a wild pitch to lead 5-2.  Perth added a pair of runs in the eighth.

Mexican League: Games of November 22


A Dennys Reyes sighting!  Another eight-run inning!

NAVOJOA 2, HERMOSILLO 0 IN NAVOJOA

Hermosillo:  Carlos Gastelum was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Dennys Reyes pitched five innings, giving up two runs on three hits and four walks with three strikeouts.
Navojoa:  Alejandro Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run.  Genaro Andrade was 2-for-3 with a run.  Salvador Robles pitched six innings, allowing five hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
The game:  Gonzalez tripled and scored on a ground out in the third and Andrade singled and scored on a ground out in the fifth for the game's only runs.  Hermosillo loaded the bases with two out in the fifth.

OBREGON 8, MAZATLAN 4 IN OBREGON

Mazatlan:  Fernando Valenzuela was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.  Walter Ibarra (Cubs) was 1-for-2 with a walk.
Obregon:  Alfredo Amezaga was 3-for-3 with three runs.  Sergio Contreras was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.  Agustin Murillo was 2-for-3 with a run.
The game:  Obregon got three in the first, but Mazatlan came right back with three in the second.  Obregon scored on a double play in the sixth to take the lead and got four in the eighth to take control.  Contreras hit a two-run double in the eighth inning.

CULIACAN 15, MEXICALI 5 IN CULIACAN

Mexicali:  Ben Guez (Detroit) was 3-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once.  Chris Roberson was 2-for-4 with a run.  Cristhian Presichi was 2-for-4.
Culiacan:  Ricardo Serrano was 4-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Jorge Cantu was 2-for-5 with a walk, a double and a home run, scoring three times and driving in five.  Mario Valdez was 2-for-5 with a walk, a double, and a two-run homer (his second), scoring twice.
The game:  Russell Branyan hit a two-run homer in the fifth to give Mexicali a 5-4 lead.  In the sixth, Culiacan put together an eight-run inning, getting two-run doubles by Cantu and Serrano, and the game was not close again.

Puerto Rican League: Games of November 22


Eddie Rosario and Daniel Ortiz carry Mayaguez to a doubleheader sweep.  A six-pitcher seven-inning shutout.

MAYAGUEZ 3, CAGUAS 1 IN MAYAGUEZ (GAME 1--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Twins:  Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 0-for-3.  Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 0-for-3.  Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs.
Caguas:  Johnny Monell (San Francisco) was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Luis Gonzalez pitched two perfect innings.
Mayaguez:  Jonathan Albaladejo pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk with one strikeout.  Jeremy Kehrt (Boston) struck out five in five innings of relief, allowing one run on three hits and no walks.
The game:  Rosario capped a three-run fourth with a two-run triple to put Mayaguez ahead 3-0.  The lone Caguas run came in the sixth on three singles.  A double play ended that inning, and Caguas was retired in order in the seventh.

MAYAGUEZ 1, CAGUAS 0 IN MAYAGUEZ (GAME 2--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Twins:  Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 0-for-1.  Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Caguas:  Jorge Padilla was 3-for-3.  Efrain Nieves (Toronto) struck out four in 4.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk.
Mayaguez:  Michael Taylor was 2-for-3 with a triple.  Steve Smith pitched 2.2 innings, allowing three hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
The game:  The game's lone run came in the fifth when Jerry Sands walked, was bunted to second by Rosario, and scored on an Ortiz single with two out.  Caguas had runners on second and third with two out in the second and a runner on third with one out in the third.
Random:  The Mayaguez starting pitcher faced only one man before leaving the game due to injury.  Mayaguez used six pitchers in the seven-inning shutout.

CAROLINA 7, SANTURCE 0 IN CAROLINA

Santurce:  Jack Lopez (Kansas City) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double.
Carolina:  Anthony Garcia (St. Louis) was 2-for-2 with two walks and a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Shuhei Fukuda was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Nao Hagashihama struck out ten in seven innings, allowing three hits and one walk.
The game:  Carolina opened the scoring with one in the third on a wild pitch and got an RBI double from Garcia in the fourth.  They added two more in the fifth and three in the eighth.  Santurce's biggest threat came in the sixth when Lopez doubled with one out and reached third with two out.

Dominican League: Games of November 22


Good days for Chris Colabello and Jorge Polanco.  Errors help Cibao to victory.

ESTE 1, AGUILAS 0 IN ESTE

Twins:  Danny Santana (Aguilas) was 1-for-4 with a double.  Chris Colabello (Este) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Aguilas:  Juan Perez (San Francisco) was 2-for-4.  Zoilo Almonte (Yankees) was 2-for-4.  Angel Castro pitched seven innings, giving up one run on nine hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
Este:  Cristhian Adames (Colorado) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Jose Ramirez (Cleveland) was 2-for-2.  Elih Villaneuva (Miami) struck out seven in 5.1 innings, allowing five hits and one walk.
The game:  Colabello singled in Adames in the first inning and it held up for the entire game.  Aguilas had runners on first and third in each of the first two innings.

ESCOGIDO 5, ORIENTE 2 IN ESCOGIDO

Twins:  Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.
Oriente:  Jackson Williams was 2-for-3 with a double and a run.  Ed Rogers was 2-for-4 with a double.  Michael Martinez was 2-for-4.
Escogido:  Erik Gonzalez (Cleveland) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Gregory Polanco (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.  Edward Valdez struck out seven in five innings, allowing two unearned runs on six hits and one walk.
The game:  Oriente scored single runs in the first and fifth to go ahead 2-0, but Escogido came back with a four-run bottom of the fifth.  Gregory Polanco had a two-run single in the inning.  Oriente had the tying run on base with none out in the seventh.  Escogido added an insurance run in the eighth.

CIBAO 3, LICEY 2 IN CIBAO

Licey:  Juan Francisco (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Pedro Figueroa (Oakland) pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.
Cibao:  Wilson Betemit (Baltimore) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Leury Garcia was 2-for-2 with an RBI.  Kevin Pucetas (Texas) pitched 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
The game:  An error and four singles produced two runs for Cibao in the third.  Licey tied it in the sixth on a home run by Carlos Triunfel (Seattle) and an RBI single by Francisco.  It stayed even until the ninth, when Hanser Alberto (Texas) singled, went to third on another single, and scored on a sacrifice fly.

Venezuelan League: Games of November 22


Deolis Guerra, Edgar Ibarra, and Dakota Watts all pitch well.  Oswaldo Arcia keeps hitting.  Another eight-run inning!

MAGALLANES 8, CARACAS 5 IN MAGALLANES

Twins:  Deolis Guerra (Magallanes) pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and no walks.
Caracas:  J. D. Martinez was 2-for-3 with two walks and a home run (his fifth), driving in two.  Jesus Guzman (San Diego) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Gregorio Petit was 2-for-4.
Magallanes:  Eliezer Alfonzo was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, his fifth.  Frank Diaz was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, his second.  Mitch Lively (San Francisco) pitched six innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits and four walks.
The game:  Alfonzo hit a three-run homer in the fourth to give Magallanes a 4-1 lead.  Diaz hit a three-run homer in the sixth to make it 7-1.  Caracas got back into it in the eighth on a two-run homer by Danny Dorn and a solo shot by Martinez, but could get no closer than three runs, although they did get the tying run up to bat in the ninth.

ARAGUA 10, LARA 4 IN ARAGUA

Twins:  Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Edgar Ibarra (Aragua) struck out all five batters he faced, striking out three.  Dakota Watts (Aragua) pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.
Lara:  Joe Thurston was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  Nick Buss (Dodgers) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Chris Jakubauskas pitched five innings, giving up two runs on three hits and four walks with three strikeouts.
Aragua:  Alex Romero was 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.  Wilson Ramos (Washington) was 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI.  Hector Gimenez was 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run homer (his sixth), scoring twice.
The game:  Lara led 3-1 after five, but Aragua got an RBI single by Arcia and a three-run homer by Gimenez to take a 5-3 lead.  The teams traded runs in the seventh and Aragua put the game out of reach with four more in the eighth.

ZULIA 12 LA GUAIRA 6 IN LA GUAIRA

Twins:  Virgil Vasquez (Zulia) pitched three innings, giving up six runs on seven hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  Yorman Landa (La Guaira) pitched one inning, giving up one run on one hit and two walks.
Zulia:  Henry Rodriguez (San Diego) was 3-for-6 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Sandy Leon (Washington) was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Arcenio Leon (Milwaukee) pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.
La Guaira:  Alex Cabrera was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run (his tenth), driving in three.  Jamie Romak was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs.  Mario Hollands (Philadelphia) pitched four innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
The game:  Hector Sanchez hit a two-run homer to put La Guaira ahead 3-0 in the first.  In the third, Cabrera hit a two-run homer to make the score 6-1.  Zulia scored single runs in the sixth and seventh, but La Guaira still appeared to be in control of the game until the eighth, when Zulia scored seven times.  La Guaira made three errors in the inning.

ANZOATEGUI 15, MARGARITA 9 IN ANZOATEGUI

Anzoategui:  Leslie Anderson was 3-for-4 with a walk and two doubles, scoring twice and driving in four.  Jose Castillo was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Cory Aldridge was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring three times and driving in one.
The game:  Anzoategui had an eight-run inning in the second to take an 8-1 lead.  Duvall hit a three-run homer in the fourth to make it 8-4, but Anzoategui got five in the fifth an it was never close again.
