Twins affliates are swept.  Oswaldo Arcia is pulled.  On the plus side, Sano and Buxton each homered.

LEHIGH VALLEY 8, ROCHESTER 1 IN ROCHESTER

Batting star:  Chris Parmelee was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and an RBI.
Pitching stars:  None.
Opposition stars:  Ethan Martin struck out six in six innings, giving up two hits and three walks.  Cody Asche was 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs.  Freddy Galvis was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.
Key inning:  The third.  It was a scoreless tie.  Cameron Rupp led off the inning with a home run.  Tyson Gillies followed with a double.  With one out, consecutive singles by Galvis, Asche, and Cody Overbeck brought in two  more runs and gave the IronPigs a 3-0 lead.
Prospect watch:  Oswaldo Arcia was 0-for-1.  Eduardo Escobar was 1-for-4.  Nick Blackburn pitched five innings, giving up six runs on ten hits and no walks.

PORTLAND 8, NEW BRITAIN 7 IN  NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Miguel Sano was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a home run (his tenth), scoring twice and driving in two.  Nate Hanson was 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs.
Pitching stars:  Dakota Watts pitched two innings, giving up an unearned run on a hit and a walk with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Tony Thomas was 2-for-5 with two doubles, two runs, and two RBIs.  Garin Cecchini was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Chrisitan Vazquez was 2-for-4 with a home run.
Key inning:  The ninth.  The SeaDogs led 7-6.  In the top of the inning, Peter Hissey singled, went to second on a bunt, and scored on a single by Cecchini to put Portland ahead 8-6.  In the bottom of the inning, Reynaldo Rodriguez walked, went to third on a single by Jordan Parraz, and scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 8-7.  Hanson hit a two-out single to put runners on the corners, but Sano grounded out to end the game.
Prospect watch:  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fourteenth.  Kyle Davies struck out six in 3.1 innings but gave up five runs on nine hits and no walks.

BREVARD COUNTY 10, FORT MYERS 4 IN BREVARD COUNTY

Batting stars:  Byron Buxton was 2-for-4 with a walk, a triple, and a home run (his second), scoring three times.  Dalton Hicks was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Stephen Wickens was 2-for-3 with a walk.
Pitching star:  Steven Gruver struck out two in two shutout innings.
Opposition stars:  Mark Williams pitched 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out three.  Ben McMahan was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Gregory Hopkins was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
Key inning:  The fourth.  The Manatees trailed 2-0.  Five singles and a passed ball produced four runs for Brevard County, giving them a 4-2 lead.
Prospect watch:  Aderlin Mejia was 1-for-5.  Mike Kvasnicka was 0-for-4.  Taylor Rogers pitched five innings, giving up six runs on eight hits and no walks.

KINGSPORT 5, ELIZABETHTON 4 IN KINGSPORT

Batting stars:  Romy Jimenez was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.  Javier Pimentel was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.  Zach Granite was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Pitching stars:  Andre Martinez pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.  Ryan Eades struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.  Kuo Hua Lo pitched a scoreless inning despite giving up one hit and two walks.
Opposition stars:  Robert Whalen struck out ten in 7.1 innings, allowing three hits and six walks.  Jeyckol De Leon was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.  Joe Tuschak was 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI.
Key inning:  The ninth.  The Mets trailed 4-3.  Jeff McNeil hit a one-out single and scored on a two-out double by Jeff Diehl.  Following an intentional walk, De Leon singled to bring in the winning run.
Prospect watch:  Dereck Rodriguez was 0-for-4.  Felix Jorge pitched five innings, giving up three runs and seven hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

GCL RAYS 3, GCL TWINS 1 AT RAYS

Batting star:  Will Hurt was 3-for-4 and scored once.
Pitching stars:  Damian Defrank struck out four in four shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.  Stephen Gonsalves pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
Opposition stars:  Clayton Henning was 2-for-4 with a triple and scored once.  Alexander Simon was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.  Eric Fredrick pitched three shutout innings, giving up four hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
Key inning:  The fifth.  It was a scoreless tie.  Daniel Sattler came in to start the inning.  Taylor Hawkins led off the inning with a home run.  A one-out error was followed by a hit batsman.  A ground out moved the runners up and Simon hit a two-run single to give the Rays a 3-0 lead.
Prospect watch:  Zach Larson was 1-for-4.  Amaurys Minier was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Alex Swim was 1-for-4.

DSL ORIOLES1 5, DSL TWINS 0 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Manuel Guzman was 3-for-3 with a walk.  Dubal Baez was 2-for-3 with a walk.
Pitching stars:  Wilfredy Liranzo struck out five in four innings, giving up one run on one hit and one walk.  Williams Ramirez struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and two walks.
Opposition stars:  Rafael Moreno struck out six in seven innings, allowing five hits and a walk.  Guillermo Salas was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored three times.
Key inning:  The eighth.  The Orioles1 already led 2-0.  A hit batsman and two singles loaded the bases.  A run scored on a wild pitch, Rochendrick Alexander hit an RBI single, and two walks brought in a third run to make it 5-0.
Prospect watch:  Frank Encarnacion was 0-for-3.  Francis Mateo was 0-for-4.

Oswaldo Arcia stays hot at AAA.  Dalton Hicks has a big day for Fort Myers.  Adam Brett Walker II does it again.

ROCHESTER 3, LEHIGH VALLEY 1 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Oswaldo Arcia was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Chris Parmelee was 2-for-4.
Pitching stars:  Logan Darnell pitched six shutout innings, giving up four hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Shairon Martis pitched a perfect inning.
Opposition stars:  Cody Asche was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Josh Fields was 2-for-4.
Key inning:  The second.  In a scoreless tie, Arcia hit a one-out double and scored on a two-out single by Ray Olmedo to give the Red Wings an early lead.

PORTLAND 5, NEW BRITAIN 4 IN NEW BRITAIN (GAME 1--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Rock Cats had scored in the fourth to cut the lead to 4-3.  In the fifth, Cecchini singled, stole second and scored on a single by Michael Almanzar to give the SeaDogs an insurance run.

Batting stars:  Angel Morales was 2-for-3 with a home run, his third.  Miguel Sano was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his ninth.
Pitching star:  D. J. Baxendale pitched six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Opposition stars:  Matt Spring was 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs.  Ronald Bermudez was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Garin Cecchini was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.
Key inning:  The ninth.  In a 3-3 tie, Spring and Ryan Dent started the inning with back-to-back homers.  A walk and a Cecchini double made it 6-3.  Michael Almanzar singled to make it 7-3, went to second on the throw home, and scored on a Bermudez single to give the SeaDogs an 8-3 lead.

FORT MYERS 10, BREVARD COUNTY 3 IN BREVARD COUNTY

Batting stars:  Dalton Hicks was 3-for-4 with two walks and a home run, scoring four times and driving in three.  Stephen Wickens was 3-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs.  Matt Koch was 2-for-5 with a walk, scoring once and driving in three.
Pitching stars:  Tyler Duffey struck out ten in seven innings, giving up three runs on five hits and a walk.  Nelvin Fuentes pitched two shutout innings, giving up no hits and one walk with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  None.
Key inning:  The seventh.  The Miracle led 3-2.  A walk, a Hicks single, and an error produced the first run.  Singles by Koch, Mike Kvasnicka, and Wickens led to two more and gave Fort Myers a 6-2 lead.  The Manatees got one back in the bottom of the inning but never got closer than that.
Prospect watch:  Byron Buxton was 0-for-5 with a walk and scored once.  Aderlin Mejia was 2-for-5 with a walk and scored twice.  Kvasnicka was 2-for-5 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Jose Berrios pitched six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  Alex Muren pitched a scoreless inning, giving up only a walk.  Dallas Gallant pitched a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and one walk while striking out one.
Opposition stars:  Mallex Smith was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double and scored twice.  Gabriel Quintana was 2-for-4 with a triple.
Key inning:  The third.  The score was tied at two.  Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out.  Max Kepler hit a two-run single, a hit batsman re-loaded the bases, Joel Licon hit a two-run double, and another run scored on a wild pitch.  The Kernels got five in the inning for a 7-2 lead and were never threatened.

The game was suspended in the bottom of the fifth.  The score was tied at three, but the Twins had runners on first and second with one out.

Pitching stars:  Alex Wimmers struck out four in 3.1 innings, giving up one run on five hits and a walk.  Reyson Zoquiel gave up an unearned run on a hit and a walk in one inning.  Josh Guyer pitched a scoreless inning with one strikeout despite giving up one hit and two walks.
Opposition stars:  Jose Paez was 4-for-5 with a double and scored twice.  Nick Ciuffo was 3-for-5 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.  Ryan Henley was 3-for-6, scoring once and driving in two.

Opposition stars:  Jose De Sousa pitched five shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Francis Guerrero was 3-for-4 with three doubles and scored once.  Jose Siri was 4-for-4 with two RBIs.
Key inning:  The sixth.  The Twins had cut a 4-1 deficit to 4-3.  With two out and none on, Guerrero doubled and Michael Beltre tripled to make it 5-3.  Beltre later scored on an error to increase the lead to 6-3.

New Britain:  Eddie Rosario was 12-for-31 with three doubles, a home run, two walks, and a stolen base.  For the season in New Britain, he is hitting .312/.371/.457 in 138 at-bats.

Fort Myers:  J. D. Williams was 7-for-18 with a double, a walk, and two stolen bases.  Those are also his season numbers in Fort Myers.

Opposition stars:  Chris Marrero was 2-for-4 and scored once.  Eury Perez was 2-for-4.  Zach Walters hit a three-run homer in the ninth.

A tough day for Twins affiliates. Matthew Summers had an excellent game. Oswaldo Arcia hit a home run.

Key inning: The first. Binghamton started the game with a double by Daniel Muno. With one out, Puello had an RBI single, stole second, and scored on a two-out single by Rhyne Huges to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.

Games of July 19


Miguel Sano clears the Mendoza line in a grand way.  Adam Brett Walker II stays hot.  The second consecutive complete game for Brett Lee.

ROCHESTER 5, SYRACUSE 4 IN ROCHESTER (5 INNINGS--RAIN)

Batting stars:  Brian Dinkelman was 2-for-2 with a triple and scored twice.  Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-1 and was hit by a pitch.  Eric Fryer was 1-for-1 with two RBIs.
Pitching star:  Cody Eppley pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and two walks with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Corey Brown was 3-for-3 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Tyler Moore was 2-for-3 and scored once.  Chris Marrero was 2-for-3.
Key inning:  The fourth.  It was a 3-3 tie.  Consecutive singles by Eduardo Escobar, Dinkelman, and Fryer gave the Red Wings the lead.  Following a walk, James Beresford singled in an insurance run.
Prospect watch:  Antoan Richardson was 0-for-1 with two walks.  Chris Parmelee was 1-for-3 and scored once.  Escobar was 1-for-2 and scored once.  P. J. Walters pitched 2.2 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four.

Batting stars:  Evan Bigley was 3-for-4 with two walks and a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Miguel Sano was 2-for-3 with two walks and a grand slam, his seventh homer.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring three times and driving in two.
Pitching star:  Daniel Turpen pitched a scoreless inning despite giving up two hits and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Wilfredo Tovar was 3-for-5 and scored once.  Allan Dykstra was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run.  Rhyne Hughes was 2-for-5 with a home run and scored twice.
Key inning:  The ninth.  The Rock Cats had seen an 8-3 lead fall to 8-6.  Cole Johnson came in to pitch the ninth and yielded a walk and a single.  He got a strikeout, but a single by Blake Forsythe loaded the bases.  An error cut the lead to 8-7 and the bases were still loaded.  Tovar then hit into a force out at home and the next batter also grounded out to end the game.
Prospect watch:  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-4 with a walk and scored once.  Nate Hanson was 0-for-4.

DUNEDIN 6, FORT MYERS 3 IN DUNEDIN

Batting stars:  Aderlin Mejia was 3-for-4 and scored once.  J. D. Williams was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Mike Kvasnicka was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored once.
Pitching stars:  Matt Tomshaw pitched two shutout innings, giving up no hits and no walks with one strikeout.  Tyler Jones, in his FSL debut, struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.
Opposition stars:  Austin Bibens-Dirkx pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk while striking out three.  K. C. Hobson was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a two-run homer.  Marcus Knecht was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer.
Key inning:  The seventh.  Leading 3-1, the Blue Jays scored three more to put it out of reach.  Hobson hit a two-run homer with one out.  With two down, a single and two walks loaded the bases and Shane Opitz singled in the third run of the inning.  The damage came off Steven Gruver, who gave up three runs on three hits and three walks in two-thirds of an inning in his FSL debut.
Prospect watch:  Byron Buxton was 0-for-5.  Dalton Hicks was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Kennys Vargas was 1-for-4 and scored once.

CEDAR RAPIDS 4, LAKE COUNTY 1 IN LAKE COUNTY

Batting stars:  Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-5 with two home runs (his nineteenth and twentieth) and three RBIs.  Max Kepler was 3-for-4.  Jonathan Murphy was 2-for-5.
Pitching stars:  Brett Lee struck out ten in a complete game, giving up one run on six hits and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Eric Haase was 2-for-3 with a home run.  Dorssys Paulino was 2-for-4 with a double.
Key inning:  The seventh.  The Kernels led 2-1.  Niko Goodrum hit a one-out single.  With two down, Walker II hit his second home run of the game, a two-run shot that gave Cedar Rapids a 4-1 lead.
Prospect watch:  Jorge Polanco was 0-for-4 with a walk and scored once.

ELIZABETHTON 6, BRISTOL 0 IN BRISTOL (7-PLUS INNINGS, RAIN)

Batting stars:  Ryan Walker was 3-for-4 and scored once.  Rory Rhodes was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Mitch Garver was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Pitching stars:  Yorman Landa pitched five innings, giving up two hits and three walks with three strikeouts.  Kuo Hua Lo pitched two innings, giving up no hits and one walk with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Robinson Leyer struck out five in five innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk.
Key inning:  The fourth.  The Twins led 1-0.  Rhodes opened the inning with a single and scored as the next two batters reached on errors.  A sacrifice fly scored another run to make the score 3-0.
Prospect watch:  Dereck Rodriguez was 0-for-4 and scored once.  Zach Granite was 0-for-3 with a walk, a run, and an RBI.  Romy Jimenez was 0-for-4.

GCL RED SOX 4, GCL TWINS 2 AT RED SOX

Batting star:  Alex Swim was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.
Pitching stars:  Jose Abreu pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks with two strikeouts.  Chih-Wei Hu pitched three innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk while striking out one.
Opposition stars:  Willie Ethington pitched five innings, allowing an unearned run on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Jesus Loya was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs.  Byran Hudson was 1-for-2 with a walk and scored twice.
Key inning:  The second.  It was a scoreless tie.  In the top of the inning, Mike Gonzales singled and scored on a double by Swim to give the Twins a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom half, a walk, a hit batsman, and another walk loaded the bases with two out.  Loya then hit a bases-clearing triple to put the Red Sox up 3-1.

DSL TWINS 8, DSL PADRES 5 AT PADRES (GAME 1--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting star:  Rafael P. Valera was 1-for-2 with two walks.  The Twins had only four hits, all in the seventh.  The Padres made six errors and walked eight.  The Twins made five errors.
Pitching stars:  Alexis Tapia pitched five innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks while striking out four.  Jhon Silva pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Joel Linares pitched five hitless innings, but allowed a run on five walks while striking out three.  Jonas Lantigua was 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.  Jhonatan Pena was 2-for-4 and scored three times.
Key inning:  The seventh.  The Twins trailed 5-4.  Joel Ramirez led off by reaching on an error, went to third on a pickoff error, and scored on a sacrifice fly to tie the game.  With two out and none on, the Twins got their only four hits of the game to win it.  Carlos Martinez doubled, Valera hit an RBI single, Rainis Silva had an RBI double, and Junior Amarante hit an RBI single, making the score 8-5.
Prospect watch:  Dubal Baez was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Ramirez was 0-for-3 and scored once.

DSL TWINS 4, DSL PADRES 3 AT TWINS (GAME 2--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Francis Mateo was 1-for-1 and scored once.  Joel Ramirez was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.  Antonio Tovar was 1-for-2 with a walk.
Pitching star:  Robener Cabrera struck out one in a perfect inning.
Opposition stars:  Luis Barahona was 2-for-3 with a triple and scored twice.  Yorky Diaz was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Key inning:  The sixth.  The score was tied at tw0.  In the top of the inning, Barahona tripled and scored on a Diaz single to give the Padres a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom half, the first two batters struck out.  Tovar then singled and went to third on a Mateo pinch-hit single.  Mateo stole second and Ramirez singled in both runners to put the Twins up 4-3.
Prospect watch:  Frank Encarnacion was 1-for-3 with a double.

Nick Blackburn pitched well.  Taylor Rogers pitched better.  Josmil Pinto is quietly having a really good year in New Britain.

SYRACUSE 11, ROCHESTER 4 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Chris Parmelee was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Jeff Clement was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Deibinson Romero hit a three-run homer, his sixth.
Pitching stars:  A. J. Achter pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.  Edgar Ibarra pitched a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and one walk with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Corey Brown was 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs.  Eury Perez was 3-for-5 with a walk and a two-run homer, scoring twice.  Tyler Moore was 2-for-3 with three walks and scored once.
Key inning:  The second.  The Chiefs broke a scoreless tie with six runs.  Chris Rahl hit a two-run homer, Will Rhymes hit a two-run triple, Danny Espinoza had an RBI single, and Rahl drove in another run with a bases-loaded walk.  The runs were charged to starter Logan Darnell, who lasted only 1.2 innings and gave up six runs on eight hits and two walks, striking out one.

BINGHAMTON 4, NEW BRITAIN 3 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Josmil Pinto was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and two RBIs.
Pitching stars:  Nick Blackburn pitched six innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk while striking out two.  Ryan O'Rourke retired all six batters he faced, striking out the last five.
Opposition stars:  Mark Cohoon pitched 7.1 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks with five strikeouts.  Darrell Ceciliani was 2-for-3 with a double and scored once.  Allan Dykstra was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Key inning:  The ninth.  The Mets trailed 3-1.  Matt Hauser came in to pitch and retired the first two batters.  Then Justin Turner singled, Josh Rodriguez walked, and Dykstra singled to make it 3-2.  Cesar Puello walked to load the bases and Rhyne Hughes hit a two-run single to put Binghamton ahead.
Prospect watch:  Miguel Sano was 0-for-4.  Nate Hanson was 1-for-4 with a double.

FORT MYERS 1, DUNEDIN 0 IN DUNEDIN

Pitching star:  Taylor Rogers pitched a complete game one-hitter, striking out eight and walking two.  The hit was a two-out double by Peter Mooney in the sixth.
Opposition stars:  J. A. Happ struck out seven in five shutout innings, allowing three hits and no walks.  Aaron Sanchez struck out six in four innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks.
Key inning:  The sixth.  J. D. Williams led off with a double, took third on a wild pitch, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Byron Buxton.

Pitching stars:  Madison Boer struck out two in a scoreless inning, despite giving up two hits and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Joseph Sever was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run, driving in four.  Jeremy Lucas was 2-for-5 with a home run.  Erik Gonzalez was 2-for-5 with a double.
Key inning:  The eighth.  The Kernels had seen a 6-2 lead drop to 7-6.  In the top of the inning, a hit batsman, a walk, and a single loaded the bases with none out.  Polanco drove in one with a sacrifice fly and Walker II brought home another with a single to make it 9-6.  Anthony Santander homered in the bottom of the inning to make it 9-7, but that was as close as the Captains came.

Pitching stars:  Ethan Mildren pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.  Aaron Slegers pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.  Andrew Ferreira pitched a scoreless inning despite walking three.
Opposition stars:  Toby Thomas was 2-for-4.  Nolan Earley was 1-for-2 with two walks and scored once.
Key inning:  The second.  It was a scoreless tie.  Haar led off the inning with a double.  With one out, Santy singled in a run, Kelvin Ortiz singled, Pimentel tripled in two, and Ryan Walker hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.  The White Sox got one back in the bottom of the inning but never got closer than three runs.

Valera hit a two-run single, a run scored on a wild pitch, and another run scored on a second-and-home double steal.  The Twins had runners on second and third with two out, but a ground out ended the inning.  With their lead cut to 8-7, the Diamondbacks got an insurance run in the bottom of the inning on a walk, a passed ball, a wild pitch, and another passed ball.  The Twins never got the tying run on base again.
