Games of June 4

An excellent game by Taylor Rogers. Not much offense for the Lookouts. A rare bad game for Kohl Stewart. Dereck Rodriguez makes his Kernels debut. The DSL Twins win in extras.

ROCHESTER 4, PAWTUCKET 1 IN PAWTUCKET

Batting stars: Eric Fryer was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Doug Bernier was 1-for-1 with three walks and a run. Reynaldo Rodriguez was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars: Taylor Rogers pitched eight innings, giving up one run on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Michael Tonkin pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars: Allen Craig was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jonathan Aro struck out two in two shutout innings, allowing three hits. Noe Ramirez pitched a perfect perfect inning, striking out all three batters he faced.

The game: Craig singled in Devin Marrero in the first inning to give the PawSox a 1-0 lead. In the third, RBI doubles by Fryer and Rodriguez highlighted a four-run inning that put the Red Wings ahead 4-1. And that was it for the scoring. The PawSox never got a man past first base until the ninth, and then it was just a man on second.

Of note: Oswaldo Arcia was 0-for-4. Kennys Vargas was 0-for-3 with an RBI, dropping his average to .326 and probably leading the Twins to believe he needs another month at AAA "for more seasoning". Josmil Pinto was 0-for-4. Danny Ortiz was 1-for-4.

TENNESSEE 6, CHATTANOOGA 1 IN CHATTANOOGA

Batting stars: Mike Gonzales was 1-for-3 with a home run, his third. Travis Harrison was 1-for-2 with a walk. Stephen Wickens was 1-for-3 with a double.

The game: Gonzales' home run in the fifth tied it 1-1. In the seventh, two errors, a hit batsman, and a walk helped lead to four Smokies' runs. The Lookouts never got back into the game, as their last eight batters were retired.

Of note: Byron Buxton was 0-for-4. Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4. Max Kepler was 0-for-4. Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-4.

BRADENTON 7, FORT MYERS 3 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars: Marcus Knecht was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two. Mitch Garver was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run. Engelb Vielma was 2-for-5 with a double.

Opposition stars: Barrett Barnes was 3-for-5 with two runs. Chris Diaz was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Edwin Espinal was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

The game: The Marauders never had a big inning, but they just kept builing the lead. It was 3-0, 4-1, 5-2, and finally 7-3. After the third inning, when the Marauders took a 3-0 lead, the Miracle never got closer than two runs.

Of note: Zach Granite was 1-for-5 with a run. Alex Swim was 0-for-4. Kohl Stewart pitched five innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on ten hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

SOUTH BEND 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 4 IN SOUTH BEND

Batting stars: Jorge Fernandez was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one. Edgar Corcino was 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk, driving in three. Nick Gordon was 2-for-3 with a run.

The game: The Cubs hit three doubles in the first inning, leading to a 4-0 lead. The Kernels fought back, scoring once in the second and getting a two-run homer from Corcino in the fourth to cut the margin to 4-3. But Brockmeier tripled in a run in the fifth and Crawford had an RBI double in the sixth to make it 6-3. The Kernels got a run in the eighth but never got the tying run up to bat.

Of note: Tanner English was 1-for-4 with a double. Zack Larson was 0-for-4. Max Murphy was used as a pinch-hitter and was 0-for-1. Dereck Rodriguez made his first appearance of the season, pitching three innings and giving up four runs on five hits and four walks with one strikeout.

The game: The Rockies scored single runs in the second and sixth to take a 2-0 lead. A Francisco Hernandez RBI single got the Twins on the board in the seventh and they tied it in the ninth on a Morel RBI single. In the twelfth, two walks preceded Cuesto's run-scoring single to put the Twins ahead. The Rockies got the tying run on in the bottom of the twelfth on a two-out hit batsman, but did not advance him.
