Brandon is Waring well in New Britain.  Big innings carry Fort Myers.  Rain stops the Red Wings and the Kernels.

ROCHESTER AT BUFFALO

Rained out.

NEW BRITAIN 4, RICHMOND 3 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Brandon Waring was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a home run, scoring twice.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Nate Hanson was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring twice.
Pitching stars Ryan O'Rourke pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out one, to get the win.  Lester Oliveros pitched a perfect ninth to get the save.
Opposition stars:  Clayton Blackburn pitched five innings, giving up one run on five hits and one walk with three strikeouts.  Jarrett Parker was 2-for-4 with a run.  Angel Villalona was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The game:  It was close all the way.  Villalona came through with a two-out single in the first to give Richmond a 1-0 lead.  The Rock Cats tied it in the fourth on an RBI double by Rodriguez.  Richmond got single runs in the fifth and sixth to go ahead 3-1, but New Britain scored twice in the bottom of the sixth, getting three walks in the inning, to tie it at three.  It stayed tied until the eighth, when Waring hit a one-out homer for what turned out to be the winning run.
Of note Kennys Vargas was 1-for-4.  D. J. Baxendale started and pitched 4.2 innings, giving up two runs on six hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

FORT MYERS 11, JUPITER 6 IN JUPITER

Batting stars Niko Goodrum was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-5 with a three-run homer, scoring twice.  Levi Michael was 1-for-4 with a double and a sacrifice fly, scoring once and driving in three.
Pitching stars Tyler Duffey pitched six innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
Opposition stars:  Ryan Goetz was 3-for-5 with a double and scored twice.  Terrence Dayleg was 3-for-5 with three RBIs.  Austin Barnes was 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.
The game:  Fort Myers broke a scoreless tie with a five-run second.  A two-run double by Michael and an RBI double by Jorge Polanco capped off the inning.  Jupiter scored one in the third and two in the fifth to close to 5-3, but the Miracle put the game away with a four-run seventh.  Goodrum drove in one with a double and Walker II hit a three-run homer in the inning.
Of note Polanco was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.  Dalton Hicks was 0-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Max Kepler was 0-for-4 with a walk and a run.

Games of April 3

A rough outing for Diamond.  Kepler takes driving in runs to the max.  Bryan Haar hits a walk-off.

BUFFALO 6, ROCHESTER 3 IN BUFFALO

Batting stars Darin Mastroianni was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.  James Beresford was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Deibinson Romero was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.
Pitching stars Yohan Pino pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.  Deolis Guerra pitched 1.1 perfect innings with one strikeout.  Matt Hoffman pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Anthony Gose was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.  Matt Tuiasosopo was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Ex-Twin Liam Hendriks pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout, getting the win.
The game:  Buffalo put together a two-out rally in the first inning, getting a single, a walk, two more singles, another walk, and another single to score four runs.  Mastroianni had a two-out two-run single in the second to cut the lead to 4-2, but the Bisons scored again in the second when Gose doubled and Tuiasosopo singled.  Rochester did not get closer than three runs again.
Of note Scott Diamond started but pitched only two innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits and four walks with one strikeout.  Chris Parmelee was 1-for-4.  Wilkin Ramirez was 0-for-2 with a walk and a run.

NEW BRITAIN 10, RICHMOND 2 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars Tony Thomas was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-2 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch, scoring four times.  Daniel Ortiz was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.
Pitching stars Pat Dean struck out seven in 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk.  A. J. Achter struck out five in 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk.  Cole Johnson gave up two hits but no runs in one inning, striking out one.
Opposition stars:  Mario Lisson was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk.  Jarrett Parker was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.
The game:  Lisson hit a two-run homer in the first to give Richmond a 2-0 lead, but Rock Cats pitching shut down the Flying Squirrels the rest of the way.  New Britain tied it in the bottom of the first on a two-run double by Nate Hanson and took the lead in the third on a hit batsman, a single, and a pair of infield outs.  The lead went to 4-2 in the fourth and a three-run sixth, consisting of three singles and a double, put the game away.
Of note:  Kennys Vargas was 1-for-5 and scored once.  Aderlin Mejia was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

FORT MYERS 5, JUPITER 1 IN JUPITER

Batting stars:  Max Kepler was 1-for-3 with a triple, scoring once and driving in three.  Jorge Polanco was 2-for-5 and scored twice.
Pitching stars Jason Wheeler pitched 5.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Steven Gruver struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing two walks.  Tim Shibuya struck out two in two perfect innings.
Opposition stars:  Chipper Smith struck out seven in five shutout innings of relief, giving up two hits and one walk.  James Nygren pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.
The game:  The Miracle took a 2-0 lead in the first on a double by Levi Michael, singles by Polanco and Dalton Hicks, and a sacrifice fly by Kepler.  Jupiter scored one in the bottom of the first, and it stayed 2-1 until the eighth.  In that inning, Polanco and Adam Brett Walker II singled, Kepler tripled them in, and Mike Gonzales singled in Kepler to make it 5-1.
Of note Hicks was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

CEDAR RAPIDS 4, CLINTON 3 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (10 INNINGS)

Batting stars Zach Larson was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Joel Licon was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring once.  Bryan Haar was 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.
Pitching stars Aaron Slegers struck out five in five innings, giving up two runs on five hits and no walks.  Christian Powell pitched two shutout innings despite allowing two hits and two walks.  Hudson Boyd also pitched two shutout innings, allowing three hits while striking out one.
Opposition stars:  Mark Bordonaro struck out four in 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits.  Jack Reinheimer was 2-for-4 with a run.
The game:  Clinton scored single runs in the first and third to take a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth, doubles by Licon and Larson, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly tied the score.  Engelb Vielma tripled and scored in the seventh to give the Kernels a 3-2 lead, but a single and a pair of throwing errors allowed Clinton to tie the game in the eighth.  It remained tied until the tenth, when with one out, Haar hit a home run over the left field fence to win the game for Cedar Rapids.
Of note:  Zack Granite was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Vielma was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run.  Miguel Sulbaran pitched one inning, allowing an unearned run on one hit with one strikeout.
