Dominican League: Games of January 4

ESCOGIDO 5, AGUILAS 3 IN AGUILAS

Twins: Samuel Deduno (Aguilas) gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out five in 5.2 innings. Luis Perdomo (Aguilas) gave up one run on no hits and two walks in one inning.
Game summary: Escogido broke a scoreless tie with three in the fifth. Aguilas got two in the bottom of the fifth, but Escogido stretched the lead to 5-2 with single runs in the eighth and ninth. Aguilas got a run in the bottom of the ninth and got the tying run into scoring position with two out.
Escogido: Jose De Paula (San Diego) gave up two runs on four hits and four walks in six innings. Javier Herrera (San Francisco) was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk.
Aguilas: Elian Herrera (Dodgers) was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Juan Lagares (Mets) was 2-for-3 and scored once.

ORIENTE 3, ESTE 2 IN ORIENTE

Twins: Wilkin Ramirez (Este) was used as a pinch-runner and did not bat. Ray Olmedo (Oriente) was 1-for-4 and scored once. Drew Butera (Oriente) was 0-for-4.
Game summary: Estrellas scored in the sixth to go ahead 2-1 and got an insurance run in the seventh. Este closed to within one in the ninth and had the bases loaded with two out.
Este: Donell Linares was 2-for-4. Jose Constanza (Atlanta) was 1-for-3 with two walks.
Oriente: Omar Javier (San Francisco) allowed one run on five hits and three walks in 5.2 innings. Christian Marrero was 1-for-1 with three walks and scored once.

Mexican League: Games of January 4

There were no games played in the Mexican League playoffs yesterday. Here’s how they stand:

Hermosillo leads Culiacan 2-0.

Obregon leads Guasave 2-0.

Mazatlan leads Mexicali 2-0.

All series are best-of-seven.

Venezuelan League: Games of January 4

CARACAS 6, LARA 5 IN CARACAS (10 INNINGS)

Game summary: Lara scored in the eighth to tie it at five. Carlos Rivero singled in the winning run in the tenth.
Lara: Joe Thurston was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. C. J. Retherford (Dodgers) was 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk and scored twice.
Caracas: Asdrubal Cabrera (Cleveland) was 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Ramon Cabrera (Detroit) was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

MAGALLANES 5, ZULIA 0 IN ZULIA

Game summary: The scoring ended in the third inning, when Magallanes scored four to take a 5-0 lead.
Magallanes: Sergio Perez gave up three hits and two walks while striking out five in 6.1 innings. Eliezer Alfonzo was 2-for-4 and scored once.
Zulia: Freddy Galvis was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Jesus Yepez retired all four batters he faced.

Australian League: Games of January 3

CANBERRA 10, PERTH 1 IN CANBERRA

Twins: Virgil Vasquez (Perth) surrendered nine runs on thirteen hits and a walk in 5.1 innings.
Game summary: It was tied at one after four when Canberra scored four in the fifth and four in the sixth to take command.
Perth: Carter Bell (Arizona) was 2-for-4 with a double. Adam Millson pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.
Canberra: Brian Grening struck out seven in seven innings, allowing one run four hits and two walks. Adam Buschini was 3-for-5 with a home run and scored twice.

ADELAIDE 7, SYNDEY 3 IN ADELAIDE

Twins: JaDamion Williams (Sydney) was 1-for-4.
Game summary: Adelaide scored four in the first and led 5-0 after two. Sydney scored three runs in the third, but Adelaide got single runs in the fourth and sixth.
Sydney: David Kandilas (Colorado) was 1-for-3 with a home run and two walks. Geoffrey Klein (St. Louis) was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.
Adelaide: Nathan Melendres was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run, scoring three times. Ben Lodge was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

MELBOURNE 6, BRISBANE 1 IN MELBOURNE

Game summary: Leading 2-1, Melbourne scored four in the seventh to take control.
Brisbane: Hirotoshi Onaka (Texas) was 2-for-4 with an RBI. David Sutherland was 2-for-4 and scored once.
Melbourne: Kevin Reese allowed one run on seven hits and a walk in 6.2 innings. Josh Davies was 4-for-4 with a home run and drove in four.

Puerto Rican League: Games of January 3

MAYAGUEZ 6, SANTURCE 0 IN SANTURCE

Twins: Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 0-for-3 with a walk. Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.
Game summary: Mayaguez scored four in the second and two in the eighth.
Mayaguez: Jeremy Kehrt (Boston) pitched seven shutout innings, giving up nine hits but no walks. Adonis Garcia (Yankees) was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.
Santurce: Luis Rivera was 3-for-3. Jeff Dominguez was 2-for-4 with a double.

CAGUAS 4, CAROLINA 3 IN CAROLINA

Game summary: Caguas took the lead with two in the first. Carolina took the lead with single runs in the fifth through seventh. Caguas came back with two in the eighth on a two-run double by Ramon Castro.
Caguas: Fernando Hernandez (Toronto) allowed an unearned run on no hits and two walks in five innings. Miguel Abreu was 2-for-3 with two walks and scored twice.
Carolina: TyRelle Harris (Cubs) allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk in seven innings. Chris Pettit was 1-for-4 with a home run and drove in two.

Dominican League: Games of January 3

ORIENTE 5, ESTE 4 IN ESTE (12 INNINGS)

Twins: Ray Olmedo (Oriente) was 0-for-5. Drew Butera (Oriente) was used as a defensive replacement and did not bat. Wilkin Ramirez (Este) was used as a pinch-runner and did not bat.
Game summary: Oriente led 4-0 after five. Este cut it to 4-3 after seven and scored in the ninth to tie. Carlos Colmenares tripled in the winning run in the twelfth.
Oriente: Evan MacLane gave up two hits and two walks in five shutout innings. Eliezer Mesa (Detroit) was 3-for-6 with two triples and scored three times.
Este: Diory Hernandez was 2-for-5 with a double and scored once. Donell Linares was 2-for-4 with a walk and scored once.

AGUILAS 5, ESCOGIDO 2 IN ESCOGIDO

Game summary: Aguilas scored single runs in five of the nine innings. They built a 4-0 lead after 6 ½ and led 5-1 after eight.
Aguilas: Angel Castro gave up one run on seven hits and a walk in six innings. Joaquin Arias (San Francisco) was 4-for-5 and scored once.
Escogido: Mauro Gomez (Boston) was 2-for-4 with a double. Alexi Casilla (Baltimore) was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Mexican League: Games of Januray 3

CULIACAN 2, HERMOSILLO 1 IN CULIACAN (10 INNINGS)

Game summary: It was 1-1 from the fourth inning on. Mario Valdez led off the tenth with a pinch-hit double and scored on a one-out single by Maxwell Leon.
Hermosillo: Garrett Mock struck out seven in 5.1 innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits and a walk. Jose Aguilar was 3-for-5 with a double and scored once.
Culiacan: Rodrigo Lopez struck out seven in seven innings, allowing one run on six hits and four walks. Sandy Madera was 1-for-3 with a walk.

OBREGON 5, GUASAVE 2 IN GUASAVE (11 INNINGS)

Game summary: Obregon scored two in the seventh to tie it at two. The three-run rally in the eleventh came on three singles, a sacrifice fly, a walk, and another single.
Obregon: Doug Clark was 3-for-4 with a walk and scored once. Sergio Contreras was 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs.
Guasave: Juan Delgadillo pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks. Jose Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk, driving in one.

MEXICALI 7, MAZATLAN 1 IN MAZATLAN

Game summary: Mexicali opened the scoring with five runs in the second and was never threatened.
Mexicali: Enrique Osorio was 1-for-4 with a home run. Carlos Vazquez (Mets) retired all four batters he faced.
Mazatlan: Edgar Osuna struck out five in five innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks. Chris Roberson was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run, scoring twice and driving in two.
